“Working through things right now,” Rams HC Sean McVay makes FINAL decision on Cam Akers’ future at the franchise

“Working through things right now,” Rams HC Sean McVay makes FINAL decision on Cam Akers’ future at the franchise

Cam Akers

Rams RB Cam Akers has had a rough start to the season. Akers has 151 rushing yards and just one touchdown on 51 carries since the start of the season. Cam Akers has maybe lost a step and HC Sean McVay recently stated that maybe it’s time to upgrade.

Cam Akers did not practice with the team on Friday and is out of the match-day squad listed for personal reasons. Sean McVay stated that the Rams are working on different things for their game against the Panthers. The Rams have had an abysmal start to the season as the NFL Super Bowl champions are 2-3 this season.

“A result of my confidence in him and the expectations we have and what we need him to be, which isn’t anything more than what he’s capable of.” Sean McVay stated when talking about RB Cam Akers.

Sean McVay urged the media to not blow things out of proportion as they are currently dealing with things internally about Cam Akers and his future in the Rams.

“This is kind of uncharted territory, and I think the biggest thing is, out of respect for the situation, want to keep it internal,” Sean McVay said.

Cam Akers was drafted in 2020 by the Rams and, since then, he has failed to impress the Rams and HC Sean McVay. With Cam Akers out of the squad for the Rams-Panthers game, McVay will be relying on Darrell Henderson Jr., Malcolm Brown, and Ronnie Rivers, who currently are on the practice squad.

Sean McVay was recently asked about the possibility of adding a new RB to which the Rams HC said. “I don’t know. I wouldn’t say no, ever.”

“We’ll always explore options if we feel like there’s chances to upgrade,” McVay added. “That’s probably not something that’s at the forefront.”

People have already speculated that it’s time for RB Cam Akers to move on from the team as he is probably going to be traded soon, though no official confirmation is made by the Rams or HC Sean McVay.

Cam Akers is still motivated and pumped up to perform for the Rams when given the opportunity, as he stated after scoring a TD against the Cardinals in week 3. “Everybody else felt like I lost a step or whatever, but I didn’t.” Cam Akers stated.
