“Got to change something,” Rams WR Cooper Kupp makes ambiguous comments after team’s DEMORALIZING loss to Bucs, coach replies

The LA Rams, even with their exceptional wide receiver Cooper Kupp, are clearly swedging to repeat their last season’s performance. The Super Bowl hangover still hasn’t gone for the team and they had to suffer another loss this Sunday at the hands of Tom Brady’s Bucs by 13-16.

While credit where due, it was the return of the ‘clutch’ Tom Brady that saw the Rams’ demise in the game. It doesn’t take away the abysmal plays the defending Super Bowl winners are making. And Cooper Kupp had some interesting words after the game for the team where he accepted that changes need to be made.

Kupp was asked whether it’s been mentally tough for the Rams to come back from the Super Bowl high. To this, he provided a rather ambiguous answer. He said, “We keep saying come back and go to work. And it’s not a shortage of effort, but at some point how much more effort can you give? You’ve got to change something. You’ve got to find a way to be efficient and score points.”

These words can be connected to other ways even though the current Rams setup has some solid players in their lineup. It can be also implied by the current noise surrounding HC Sean McVay and his future with the franchise.

It surely doesn’t help either on McVay’s part either as he too didn’t have a clear answer to the current situation of the Rams. “I don’t necessarily think it’s the panic button – -but changes have to be made. Adjustments have to be mad – – We can’t continue to go on like this- –  And what that looks like, I don’t necessarily have the exact answers right now,” McVay stated in the post-game conference.

The Rams as a team are finding it hard to look like the defending champions, but that’s not the case with their wide receiver. With a significant 33% share of targets, Cooper Kupp leads the NFL and is responsible for 71% of the Rams’ receiving touchdowns, which is tied for the most in the league.

Without a shadow of a doubt, Cooper Kupp has been the Rams’ best player this season by far. Only Tyreek Hill has more receptions in the NFL than his 72. Kupp is fourth among pass catchers in terms of receiving yards with 813.

Seeing all these numbers, one cannot help but echo the question which the fans and pundits currently have on their minds: Where would the Rams offense be without Cooper Kupp?

The team has to pick up quickly if they want to repeat last season’s feat. The Rams are averaging just 286 yards per game, which ranks them 31st in the NFL, despite Kupp performing at an All-Pro level once again. They rank 29th in the league with 16.4 points per game. We are not accustomed to seeing that level of output from a McVay attack.

Also, if rumors are to be believed, there’s a high possibility that McVay will be soon replaced from the Rams’ HC position. He ought to be much more driven to turn things around if he intends to retire sooner rather than later.

The Rams are currently third in the NFC West with a record of 3-5 and will be taking on the Cardinals on Monday.
