The trading deadline brought new excitement to the Buffalo Bills’ camp as the team signed one of the experienced cornerbacks, Rasul Douglas, from the Green Bay Packers. Douglas was a senior member at the Packers and the move reflected the latter’s mindset of relying on young bloods for this and the next seasons. On the other hand, the move excited the Bills management, players, and fans as they needed someone experienced on their defensive side.
The Bills fans had every reason to get excited after this deal. Douglas is one of the best cornerbacks to play this season. In the eight games, he has registered 32 combined tackles (six assisted and 26 solo tackles). Against the Minnesota Vikings, the player had five combined tackles. He shined despite the team’s poor performance.
The Green Bay Packers have built a team relying on young blood. After the Vikings game, a few players came to Douglas and took some suggestions from him. The veteran later shared this moment with the press as he said,
When guys come to you, they watch you work; they watch you study; they watch how you prepare. They’re like, ‘This guy’s been doing it for a long time and he’s been doing it at a high level and he’s playing good. Watch him. See how he does it.’ So, they come to me, so I figured I wanted to take that ownership. OK, let me lead.
The Bills fans are happy to see Rasul Douglas as their new defense leader
The Buffalo Bills are considered one of the favorites to win the Lombardi trophy after their performance in the first half of the league. They won three out of their first four games in the league and humbled the mighty Miami Dolphins. However, their performance declined a bit in recent times as the team lost against the weakly touted Jacksonville Jaguars and the New England Patriots.
Offensively, the Bills have been too good with Josh Allen, having one of the better seasons so far. He is one of the top-ranking quarterbacks in the league for the Bills. But defensively, they were in search of a leader who could lead from the front, and Douglas seems to be the perfect match for this role. He is a veteran and well-experienced. His stats are better than the Bills’ regular CB Dane Jackson’s. With all these, he can become the inevitable leader in the defense.
And the fans know it. Right after the trade occurred, they burst their excitement out on X. They flooded feeds with positive comments and shared the news with joy. Check out some of the comments that they made.
It is to be seen now whether Douglas does justice to the faith that the fans have in him. The Bills fans can expect him to start in Week 9 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
