Ravens Super Bowl Champ makes controversial claim that Lamar Jackson suffering from ‘Steph Curry Syndrome’

The Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson‘s passing game was recently criticized by the former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Despite having statistics in the passing game, Jackson has been on the receiving of that criticism for a long time. And, the former Super Bowl Champion Torrey Smith shared his two cents on the narrative that Lamar is not a good pocket passer and compared him to the NBA legend Stephen Curry.
During a recent episode of the Footbahlin with Roethlisberger podcast, the Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger recently made a shocking claim that the NFL defense doesn’t fear Lamar Jackson’s accuracy.
“You don’t really fear Lamar’s accuracy all the time. He’s got a huge arm, he can make things happen when he scrambles, but you don’t fear him just sitting in the pocket and picking you apart,” Roethlisberger said. “You can bring safeties down because you do fear him running because he’s a different level runner. So you fear that, so you bring safeties down.“
This absurd claim caused massive outrage on social media and plenty of fans, analysts, and former NFL players including Shannon Sharpe and Robert Griffin III called out Roethlisberger on his absurd claim. In that trend, the former Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith also chimed in to share his opinion on the topic.
Torrey Smith compares Lamar Jackson with Stephen Curry
After the video of Ben Roethlisberger critiquing Lamar Jackson‘s accuracy went viral on social media, the 2-time Super Bowl champion Torrey Smith compared the Ravens QB with the Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry to prove a point.
“Lamar is a victim of being extremely gifted at one thing. He is the best running QB of all time, so people think he can’t pass. He gets treated like Steph Curry. Steph is the greatest shooter so folks act like he can’t do anything else,” wrote Smith on his Twitter.
The NBA playoffs buzz got people making basketball references and comparisons. Nevertheless, it’s a valid comparison! Steph Curry always just gets limited to the title of the greatest shooter despite his other talents just like Lamar Jackson always getting criticized for his passing despite being one of the only two QBs to ever win the MVP award unanimously. The other unanimous MVP-winning QB is Tom Brady.
