The former player-turned-analyst Richard Sherman believes that the Cleveland Browns’ expensive quarterback, Deshaun Watson, is failing to meet expectations. In the recent episode of the show ‘Undisputed’, Sherman said that high expectations are causing damage to Watson’s form.

He had a poor offseason and poor training. It is unfortunate. He is playing poor football. Maybe the expectations and outside noise are a bit too much, Sherman said.

Lamenting that injury is not the reason for Watson’s form and its just the QB being off, the analyst continued, “He did not suffer any injury. It’s not like he suffered a shoulder injury where you say, hey he is not the same, the shoulders are not the same, his throw motion is not the same or anything like that. He just looks off.”

The Cleveland Browns did not have a bad start in their 2023-24 season. In some unexpected turn of events, the team won their first match against the Cincinnati Bengals. That too by a high margin. It was 24-3 score in favor of the Browns. They not only shocked the fans of the Cincinnati team but also the NFL analysts who hoped for a Bengals masterclass in their season opener.

In the second game, however, the Browns had to suffer a setback as they lost against the Pittsburgh Steelers by a margin of 22-26. It is to be seen whether the team makes a comeback in their coming game.

Deshaun Watson’s performance in the two games has been abysmal

Despite a not-so-bad start, the Browns will be concerned about its quarterback Deshaun Watson’s form. Watson did not have a good start this season. He had an average performance against the Bengals and saw multiple ups and downs. He finished the game by completing 16 of 29 passes and threw for 154 yards. He had a touchdown as well, throwing an interception once.

Against the Pittsburgh Steelers, he was abysmal. According to multiple media assessments, the $230 million contract holding player played like a $12 million quarterback, an indirect comparison to Baker Mayfield, who is having a ball so far with Tampa Bay.

Watson accounted for three turnovers that included interception, a pick-six, and a game-losing fumble that returned for a touchdown. To make matters worse, he was called for two massive 15-yard facemask penalties.
