The Baltimore Ravens had a cracking start to their 2023–24 NFL season. They won their season opener and outplayed the Cincinnati Bengals in their second game by a margin of 27-24. In both of these games, the Ravens showed how formidable they are to contest this year’s Super Bowl. Their star quarterback, Lamar Jackson, started showing what he was capable of doing. In both of the matches, the 26-year-old QB showed his masterclass, which helped the team register victories.
Jackson was impeccable against the Cincinnati Bengals. Be it in the air or on the ground, the Bengals’ defense had no answer to Jackson’s masterclass. He threw for 237 yards, had two touchdown (TD) passes, and rushed for 54 yards. His efforts helped the team finish the game with 415 yards of offense. The player reminded NFL spectators and fans of the old Lamar Jackson, who became the unanimous MVP award winner in 2019.
Richard Sherman, from the sets of the popular football podcasting show, ‘Undisputed’, spoke extensively on this. He said this Baltimore Ravens squad is one of the hot favorites to win the Super Bowl this year.
“Lamar Jackson is showing his MVP form, I mean that throw to Zay Flowers was unbelievable. … And it’s from the pocket. Clean pocket, dime, on the money. You can’t throw it better than that,” he said.
“And you always talk about Lamar being known for being mobile and running the ball and doing all that. They were talking about him as a running back. I ain’t never seen a running back throw it like that,” he added. “It was a great win for the team. They are starting to look like the old Baltimore Ravens.”

Baltimore Ravens’ performance in the first two games
In the first game vs. Houston Texans, the Ravens won by a comfortable margin of 25-9. It was a one-sided game for the Ravens as they showed a brilliant defensive display. They had the Texans’ numbers. Jackson was so-so in that game, completed 17-of-22 passes, and covered 169 passing yards and 38 rushing yards. However, he was intercepted once.

The team was more staunch against the Bengals as they clinched a 27-24 win in a much closer contest. It was purely a Lamar Jackson masterclass. The above-mentioned stats clearly say how effective he was in that game.
Nonetheless, the team has one weak point now, and that is Odell Beckham Jr. The newly recruited wide receiver is not in his best of form. If he comes back to his normalcy, this team could have a devastating run. It’s to be seen how the Ravens will face the Indianapolis Colts in their upcoming game on September 24.
