The bromance between Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski is one for the ages. The quarterback-tight end duo, have spent a lot of time together and are closest friends even off the football pitch.
Gronkowski joined the New England Patriots in 2010 and became a part of the massively successful franchise with Tom Brady as their protagonist. The duo won three Super Bowl titles during their time with the Patriots.
After Brady’s time with the Patriots came to an end abruptly in 2019, Rob Gronkowski decided to take an early retirement citing mental health issues. However, the tight end made a return to the NFL, in 2020 after Brady joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
No prizes for guessing, but the primary reason for Gronkowski’s return to the NFL was to the Buccaneers. It was only later revealed that Brady was the one who had called for his trade even at the new franchise. This only proves how close Gronkowski and Brady have been over the years.
However, in a recent podcast appearance, Gronkowski claimed that initially, he did not get along well with Brady. The tight end also revealed a hilarious incident, about how his first interaction went with the legendary quarterback.

“I was in the training room getting my foot taped and my ankles taped. He comes up and he’s like ‘Hey I’m Tom.’ I was like, I’ve gotta play it cool too, I was like I’m just gonna introduce myself. I’m not gonna call a big fan or anything, I was like hey I’m Rob man. It was just hilarious,” Gronkowski said on the New Heights podcast featuring Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce.
Rob Gronkowski also went on to talk about how Brady used to treat him during his initial days at the Patriots. The 33-year-old reminisced about the long practice sessions he had to go through with Brady throwing passes, to improve their connection.
“I mean at first, I thought he was out of control man. I was like this dude is crazy… It took me a little bit you know to realize where it was coming from and what the love was for. I kind of felt like he was harder on me at first because I think he saw some talent in me.”
“He saw the opportunity that I had that was presented in front of me and uh every single day man after practice, he would make me stay he would make me and like two other rookies today and he’d be like we’re getting on the same page and uh he’d be throwing pass after pass right,” Gronkowski finished off on the topic.
