Rob Gronkowski is an extremely difficult man to read. The legendary tight end has been giving mixed signals when it comes to his decision to unretire and return to the NFL. The tight end recently tweeted “I’m bored,” on his Twitter handle. This tweet sent fans into a frenzy and many believed that it was a hint signaling his return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The tight end has reportedly contacted his former team regarding a possible return to the team. Over the course of this season, there have been many conversations and rumors about Rob Gronkowski’s return, however, this time, it appears to be realistic and closer than ever to happening. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are not playing well, the team has a 6-8 record this season.

Since the division the team is in is terrible this year, the Bucs have managed to stay on top of the division. However, the team does not stand much of a chance in the postseason with the manner in which they are playing. Rob Gronkowski in his conversation with the Bucs stated that he has been working out actively. Both sides have had fruitful talks.

Rob Gronkowski could be the missing piece that Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers need.

The tight end and the team have been in talks and looking at multiple options, one of which is possibly signing him to the practice squad in order to give him a couple of weeks to get back into the groove. It will not be surprising if the team decides to directly add him to their active roster as they could use him at this juncture.

However, it is all just a conversation for now. Head Coach Todd Bowles had this to say regarding the tight end, “It was more of a conversation than anything else, usually, when you have to think about playing, you probably don’t want to play. When it’s just a discussion, I didn’t think much of it at the time.”

The main reason Gronk decided to go back into retirement was due to injuries. In the last season alone, the tight end suffered fractured ribs and almost punctured his lung in the Week 3 game against the Los Angeles Rams. Gronk later revealed that his earlier tweet had nothing to do with football and was part of a partnership he has with FanDuel.

“I barely tweet, actually. I’m kind of bored, just people took that as I was coming back to football right away. It was just mind-blowing, actually, how my agent hit me up, and two teams hit me up. It was crazy. My friends actually were hitting up, too, like ‘Bro, are you really going back to football? I don’t see that happening.’ I was like, ‘You know I’m not’.”

Gronk received two calls from NFL teams after his tweet. He revealed on the ‘Up & Adams’ Show that “No, I’m not playing this year. I can’t tell you what I’m doing next year or the year after. You never know. There could be a slight chance.” Tampa needs Rob’s skillset and Tom Brady needs the Robin to his Batman now more than ever, however, only time will tell if the tight end decides to unretire once again and step onto an NFL field.
