The Cincinnati Bengals-Houston Texans game on Sunday was supposed to be a nervy encounter for the offseason favorites from Cincinnati. The Texans came into the game boasting a 4-4 record and one of the best rookie QBs in recent times in C.J. Stroud. The Bengals, on the other hand, brought a four-game winning streak to the game with their QB, Joe Burrow.
The game was a great contest with the Texans coming out on top, 27-30. Stroud had a massive game, throwing for 356 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Burrow though failed to replicate his recent good performances and had a poor game by his standards.
He threw for 347 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. The Texans came to Cincinnati and shocked the Bengals. Former NFL QB Robert Griffin III was impressed by Stroud’s outing and called him a ‘top-5’ QB in the league.
One of the realest quarterbacks in NFL right now [is] Mr. C.J. Stroud. Who is a top five quarterback right now in the NFL. And I'm not talking about rookies. I mean the top five guys playing at the position right now.Griffin said on his RG3 and The Ones podcast
He further continued by saying:
C.J. Stroud has the best of both the worlds right now. He's playing before the defense is prepared and he's not making mistakes. When you really look at the top echelon of QBs, it's really hard to find five of them that you would take over C.J. Stroud.
The Texans improved to 5-4 after the win against the Bengals. They snapped the Bengals’ four-game winning streak in the process. Stroud is the clear favorite to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year and might even be in the MVP conversation if he continues his elite production.
C.J. Stroud talks about the Texans’ win over the Bengals on Sunday
C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans took on Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday and came out victorious. Stroud was fantastic, as he has been throughout the season, and the Bengals had no answers for the rookie. He talked about the win afterwards and the last-second drive to win the game.
Stroud said:
(The Bengals) knew it would come down to the wire. We knew that, too. I just went to DeMeco [Ryans] and let him know, ‘Man, I got you, we’re going to win this game.’ He looked me right in the eye and said, ‘I’ll trust you.'
The rookie credited his O-line for the win and further added:
I took a lot of big hits this game, but my O-line, they fought their tails off. I think that’s where we won the game, our O-line.
The Texans will play their next game against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday and will hope to continue this two-game winning streak. The Bengals, on the other hand, have a short week as they will face the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night football and will hope to bounce back from a crushing defeat against the Texans.
