The Jets are on the verge of signing the future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers. They are currently working on a deal to complete the trade with the Green Bay Packers to acquire the 39-year-old QB. The trade is almost guaranteed to happen in a few days and in the meantime, the Jets HC Robert Saleh claims that an accomplished QB like Rodgers showing interest in the Jets shows how far the team has come in the last few years.
Robert Saleh took over the head coaching job ahead of the 2021 season. After two seasons, Saleh has a record of 11 wins and 23 losses. The record is not good so far but he has certainly turned this franchise around. Thanks to some good decisions in the last few drafts by their GM Joe Douglas, the Jets actually have a stacked roster but still, they don’t have any firepower at the QB position.
The Jets are in win-now mode, they would like to win something meaningful while all of their best players are still on rookie contracts. That’s the Jets have gone all in on Rogers this off-season. The Jets are reportedly willing to give multiple first-round picks for the Packers legend and furthermore; they have also signed Rodgers’ long-time teammate Allen Lazard on a 4-year deal.
The New-York based franchise has waited patiently to rope in the 10-time Pro Bowl QB. There are also no quarterbacks left in the free agency market that has the potential to lead the Jets to a Super Bowl.
Robert Saleh is proud of his progress with the Jets
While the Jets HC Robert Saleh is patiently waiting for his team to complete the deal that will bring Aaron Rodgers to his team, the third-year head coach addressed the media on Sunday regarding Rodgers’ situation.
“Two years ago when we first got there, just thinking about where we were and how far we’ve come,” Saleh said about Rodgers wanting to join his team. “To have a guy like him want to play for us is pretty cool and shows how far we’ve come. But we still have a long way to go and a lot of work to do.”
Saleh is indeed flattered by Rodgers’ desire to play for his team but the head coach admitted he doesn’t have any update on the Rodgers trade. So the Jets and the Packers have been in a stalemate for more than a week and are working on a fair deal that would satisfy both parties.
