The New York Jets have many problems in their roster, but the biggest of them all is their starting quarterback. The Jets have built a playoff roster, but with Zach Wilson as their quarterback, they haven’t won many games. So, head coach Robert Saleh turned to Tim Boyle as the starting QB, who also turned out to be not so good.
Amidst this messy situation, he reportedly wanted to go back to Wilson as their starting quarterback, but the only issue was Wilson was reportedly not keen on returning to the Jets as their leader. The Athletic’s Dianna Russini recently reported that Wilson was reluctant to play again due to injury risks.
However, the Jets head coach Robert Saleh addressed those rumors during a press conference on Monday. Saleh squashed those rumors and said that Zach Wilson desires to become the leader of the Jets again.
Let's be clear. If he was reluctant to play, guys, he wouldn't be here. All right? I actually coincidentally just got done speaking with him, he came in about half hour ago and we had a really good conversation. The young man wants the ball, he wants to start.Saleh told reports on Monday
Russini reported that Wilson — Who just has one year left in his rookie deal — is worried about getting injured. However, Saleh was clear that Wilson wants the ball and wants to be out in the middle of the action. Besides, Wilson being worried about injury doesn’t make any sense, given that he might not get another shot with any team if he let go of this opportunity.
Zach Wilson believes he is the best QB in the room, says Robert Saleh
During the press conference on Monday, the Jets head coach, Robert Saleh, said Zach Wilson still believes he is the best quarterback in the Jets’ QB room. However, he did not announce his starting QB for the Jets’ week 14 game.
[Wilson] believes he's the best quarterback in the room and best quarterback for this team and the guy who gives us the best chance to win. And I'll tell you guys the same thing I told him, I appreciate it, I appreciate the fact that he wants to play. I'm just not there yet.
The Jets have to win out their remaining games to have a shot at the postseason. Their playoff chances are slim to none, but they are not out yet. So, they might be leaning on Wilson again to win some games for them in the upcoming weeks.
