Deshaun Watson was once regarded as one of the faces of the NFL. A talent that was supposed to galvanize and revitalize the Houston Texans into real contenders for years to come. He had some terrific seasons for the Texans and was in the same conversation with Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen as the league’s future. That all came crashing down when Watson found himself in between the sexual harassment allegations in 2021.
Since then, the signal-caller’s career has gone downhill. He requested a trade from the Texans, and they traded him to the Cleveland Browns. Although Watson received a huge contract from the Browns, he was suspended for 11 games and was fined $5 million in 2022. However, many fans and pundits have turned their back on the quarterback, and his recent run of poor performances to begin the 2023 season has attracted much criticism. Brady Quinn, a former NFL quarterback, is one such person who has criticized Watson this season.
Quinn was recently going back-and-forth with Watson’s personal coach, Quincy Avery. The analyst went below the belt with his comments on Watson and that hasn’t gone well with another former NFL player and current analyst, Ryan Clark. He shared a tweet on his Twitter account explaining why Quinn was wrong. This is what Ryan Clark said:
What, I won’t say is what @Brady_Quinn said. None of it. As an analyst it isn’t my job to judge a man’s intent. This isn’t Quinn’s first time challenging a player’s character. Before the draft he did the same to CJ Stroud. So, maybe this is his way."Ryan Clark via X.
He also added that Quinn’s comments on Deshaun’s controversial past were out of line. Clark also emphasized that families are involved. Hence, comments aimed at someone should remain civil.
Watson has had a poor start to the season. He has only played in four games so far and has thrown for just 683 yards and four touchdowns. He has three interceptions and a rating of 80.9. Watson has received criticism for not being available for his team due to injuries this season. He injured his throwing shoulder in Brown’s recent game against the Indianapolis Colts.
Deshaun Watson unsure of his return to action after a shoulder injury
Deshaun Watson suffered a shoulder injury in the Cleveland Browns‘ recent win against the Indianapolis Colts last Sunday. He injured his throwing shoulder in the first quarter and was ruled out for the entire game. He opened up about his injury on Thursday.
This is what Watson told the reporters about his injury:
Right now, we're not in a space where I should be out there. I'm trying to get to a percentage where I can go out there and be very, very beneficial for the team.
He has been ruled out of the Browns’ next game against the Seattle Seahawks this Sunday. Backup QB P.J. Walker is expected to take over the quarterbacking duties against the Seahawks.
Watson, so far this season, has played in four games and has a completion percentage of 61.7%. He hasn’t had the best of starts to his season, and injuries have played a role in his limited production so far. He will hope to get back on the gridiron as soon as possible.
