The Pittsburgh Steelers are doing the unthinkable this season, the team is having a losing season under Mike Tomlin, something that fans do not get to see often. The Steelers are 7-7 this season but sit at the bottom of the AFC North.
The team has a lot of woes ranging from lack of consistency at quarterback to wide receivers. In light of the team’s disappointing season, a rather interesting question has surfaced, Should Mike Tomlin step down from his role as the HC of the team?
ESPN’s Ryan Clark definitely thinks so. The former Pittsburgh Steeler who played for Coach Tomlin believes he should consider moving on from his current role and take up a coaching position on a different team. He cited the example of Andy Reid, who was the coach of the Eagles before he got the position on the Chiefs, Clark said,
It didn't mean that Andy Reid could not coach anymore, it meant that he shouldn't be coaching here. And coach Tomlin should now move on from Pittsburgh and everybody should line up to hire him because the freaking man knows how to do it but he shouldn't do it there.Ryan Clark via ESPN’s Get Up
Clark makes one thing crystal clear: it is not that Mike Tomlin is not a good coach, but he just needs a change of situation. Andy Reid went 4-12 in his last season coaching the Philadelphia Eagles. The subsequent year, when he became the HC of the Kansas City Chiefs, Reid went on an 11-5 run. While Reid had a bad year as the play-caller on the Eagles, it did not mean that he lacked the ability to coach because once he came to the Chiefs; he found a lot of success.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have been one of the worst teams in the NFL this season
Clark further added,
Some of it is him not getting it right...you have to adjust, I believe that he has tried to adjust...the first thing he did when he got to Pittsburgh was he changed the way we practiced...
Clark then reminisces about his days as a Steeler. Coach Mike Tomlin made sure the players were pushed to an extent that they never had been before, but as time passed, he began to realize one thing. It was the fact that his athletes at the time were going to go out there and do their best every single time. As a result, Tomlin stopped nagging them because he could feel the hunger from his players.
Ryan Clark, however, believes the existing lot in the Pittsburgh Steelers lacks that desire to win and all they are doing right now is “taking advantage” of Mike Tomlin. Clark now believes that Tomlin’s style of coaching is no longer relevant to the Steelers. What he requires is a change of scenario, a fresh start.

Defensively, Pittsburgh has never had a problem, but it is the offense that has let them down this season. Inconsistency from the QB and failed opportunities to convert have resulted the team in being blown out. The Steelers will do everything in their power to retain Mike Tomlin because he has cracked the perfect formula to make this team succeed.
Tomlin has not been able to recreate his magic because this year, the team has been bad and there is no point in hiding. By no means does Clark deserve to be fired over his take. Even Mike Tomlin has to consider the possibility that he may need to leave his stuff unattended.
