The Tennessee Titans surprised everyone during the 2023 NFL Draft by trading up eight spots to draft the Kentucky QB Will Levis as the 33rd overall pick. Many Titans fans were unhappy with the pick, especially since they just selected Louisville QB Malik Willis in the third round of the 2022 Draft. Ryan Tannehill shares a similar sentiment.

The former Pro Bowl QB Ryan Tannehill addressed the media on Wednesday and claimed that going into the training camp this year feels similar to last year’s experience. “Yeah, we’ve been down this road before, so it’s definitely a little bit of déjà vu,” Tannehill said.

The Titans drafted Malik Wallis in the third round of the 2022 draft and made him compete with Tannehill for the starting QB job. However, it didn’t work out the way head coach Mike Vrabel would’ve hoped since Willis never earned the starting quarterback spot. They ended up trading up to get another quarterback in this year’s draft.

Both Willis and Levis were projected as top 10 picks before the draft. However, they both slid all the way out of the first round during draft day. Now, the Titans have three QBs on their roster. Will Levis starts his NFL career with the Tennessee-based football team as a third-stringer in the quarterback depth charts.

Just like this year, Ryan Tannehill wasn’t happy with the Tennessee Titans front office drafting a quarterback in the 2022 draft either. In 2022, the Titans traded up to draft Malik Willis as the 86th overall pick.

“We’re competing against each other,” Tannehill said of Willis last year. “We’re watching the same tape, we’re doing the same drills. I don’t think it’s my job to mentor him, but if he learns from me along the way then that’s a great thing.”

Willis started 3 games last season and threw 3 interceptions and no touchdown. And now seeing another QB in the locker room doesn’t make Tannehill pleased, but he is now attending OTAs and is focused on just what he can control.

“My job is to get ready to go win football games, and that’s what I’m going to do each and every day,” Tannehill noted. “As players, you got to control what you can control – and that’s doing the best you can.”

It’s no secret that Ryan Tannehill’s time in Tennessee is running out. He registered 2536 passing yards and 12 touchdowns in the 12 games he started. Since Willis’ experiment didn’t work out well for the Titans, the new addition Will Levis has a great chance to become the full-time starter for the team before the end of the 2023 season.
