The 2022 season did not treat ‘former’ Raiders quarterback Derek Carr well. In the 15 games he started, Carr went 6-9 and was benched for the last two weeks after repeated failure to win games for the Raiders. It was evident that Las Vegas would cut him from the emotional message he shared after the end of the regular season.
The Raiders announced on February 14 that they were releasing Derek Carr. Following his release, there were many speculations about where he would land for the 2023 season. New York Jets seemed like the best destination since they explicitly told Carr that he would become a First-Ballot Hall of Fame quarterback if he were to win games with them.
However, in the end, Derek Carr was scooped up by the New Orleans Saints on March 6, 2023. The Saints signed a four-year $150 million deal with Carr, which included $100 million in guaranteed money, with a $60 million signing bonus. The Saints will automatically become the best team in the NFC South division and have the best shot at making the playoffs.
Derek Carr is the best QB in New Orleans after Drew Brees

The Saints went 7-10 in the 2022 season and were lacking in the quarterback position. Thankfully, they were able to snatch the top free-agent quarterback and sign him to a four-year deal. Derek Carr will fit perfectly in Dennis Allen’s offense alongside Alvin Kamara, Chris Olave, Marquez Callaway, and Taysom Hill. The Saints’ front office wasn’t the only one who recruited Carr to the team.
Defensive end Cam Jordan tried to recruit Derek Carr through a cryptic tweet he wrote back in February. This might’ve given the front office the push to have a talk about onboarding Carr. Now that the 31-year-old is officially a Saint, Cam Jordan expressed his excitement on Twitter and wrote, “I get wifi and looks like we got DC4… told ya black and gold looks better.”
Even star wide receiver Michael Thomas was elated as well about having Carr as his quarterback and tweeted, “Thank you Jesus.” Derek Carr was the Raiders’ all-time career passing leader during the nine years he spent with them. He was also at the helm during the Raiders’ only two playoff appearances since 2002. Granted that last season was one of the worst of his career, he is expected to bounce back in the coming season.
And with the Saints players being excited about having a veteran quarterback in the locker room, the bond between them will definitely translate to touchdowns on the field. Fans on social media also pointed out that Carr is the next real quarterback for New Orleans after Drew Brees retired. With all the love and support Derek Carr has been getting, his performance will definitely be a lot better in 2023.
