“The Saints would be horrified if Drew put a call in”: Skip Bayless believes Drew Brees’ idea of returning is delusional

“The Saints would be horrified if Drew put a call in”: Skip Bayless believes Drew Brees’ idea of returning is delusional

The New Orleans Saints have quite a team this year, with the starting quarterback as Jameis Winston, a stacked defense with a leader like Tyrann Mathieu, and the cherry on top, they have their wideout, Michael Thomas, back. In addition to this, the team has also drafted Chris Olave, an amazing rookie wideout whose route running is unparalleled to the other members of his draft class. He has already been called the best receiver from this entire class.

The Saints do have Jameis Winston at quarterback, he is not a top 10 quarterback in the NFL but he gets the job done, well at least sometimes. Winston had a completion percentage of 59 last year where he played in 7 games. That is down from 63.6 percent the previous year in which he started 4 games. Of course, he did not have as many interceptions as he did in Tampa but then again these are rather mediocre stats. Now, what if we were to replace Jameis Winston with Drew Brees? Would that help?

“He watched Brady retire and unretire and I think it tore him apart”: Skip Bayless on why Drew Brees wants to return

Drew Brees and Jameis Winston
Drew Brees replacing Jameis Winston are more likely to hurt the Saints’ odds of making the Super Bowl

Drew Brees dropped a bomb on Twitter when he posted the following tweet, the former quarterback of the New Orleans Saints hinted at a possible return to the league. He spent the past year as an analyst for NBC, however, it appears that he did not enjoy this as much because he has decided to leave the network in order to take a break or prepare for a return. Brees’ tweet sent everyone into a frenzy.

Not very good, everyone remembers what they last saw of Drew Brees, they know he was on fumes, he knew he was on fumes,Undisputed analyst Shannon Sharpe shared his thoughts on the possibility of the New Orleans legend returning to the league, it makes sense as Drew in his last season was not able to throw the ball as efficiently. He played his final career game against the Buccaneers, a game which was pretty close but ended badly as the Saints’ offense could not perform.

“I believe in that situation, Jameis Winston could have given them a better chance to win, In his last season Drew Brees only averaged 6.1 yards per target. That was the lowest by a quarterback not named Alex Smith in the last decade.” Sharpe further elaborated and said that the league is different now and it would not make sense for him to return as he will not be able to keep up. Brees is 43 years of age, however, watching Tom Brady play and almost win at nearly 45 years must have got him considering a return.

Skip Bayless believes this is one of the reasons that Brees may actually come back, the QB had also praised the Saints for signing Jarvis Landry and Tyrann Mathieu on Twitter and had just mentioned that these additions make him want to come back. “He watched Brady retire and unretire, I think that tore him apart. To watch a guy who is one and a half years older than he comes back and suddenly all of them are picking the box to win it all,” Skip mentions referring to Tom Brady.

Brees had a lot of setbacks in his final game, he recorded 24 TDs and had 6 INTs but he was able to only start 12 games in total as his body was not able to keep up. The HOF QB has also undergone shoulder surgery recently which has rendered him healthier than before.

He could be a top 20 QB if he got back, he can just beat you with his head,” Skip goes on to add. However, being a top 20 QB in the league will not get the New Orleans Saints to where they want to be and that is the Super Bowl. “I think the Saints would be horrified if Drew suddenly put in a call,” Skip believes that the Saints would be in a rough position if he the former QB decided to return. The team would have to deny the hero of the city as Brees has a lot of history and memories with the Saints organization.

Currently, Drew Brees returning to the Saints would not make them an immediate Super Bowl contender, he has to remain healthy and in addition to that, he is at a disadvantage owing to his height, which he overcame in his prime due to his quick throwing abilities. However, now it is really doubtful if Drew Brees can take that NFL beating day in and day out and still play at the level we all are accustomed to seeing him play at.

Do you think Drew Brees actually meant that he will come back or is he just kidding?
