Rodger Goodell must have been grinning ear to ear, witnessing the popularity of the NFL skyrocket after Taylor Swift started attending games. Her presence not only helped the league reach new heights but also generated a significant amount of brand value for the sport.

Swift’s reason for watching the games at the stadium was to support her boyfriend, Travis Kelce. It probably wasn’t her primary intention for the league to go global, but it’s nice when things work out.

The pop icon boosted the sponsorship ratings by 20%, and female viewership was at an all-time high during the 2023 season. ‘Swifties’, primarily consisting of young girls, have gained more interest and continue to grow each day. As a result, NFL viewership rose by 53%, and among the 18–24 age demographic, the increase has been around 24%.

Goodell was naturally on board, with more and more people tuning in to watch football. The NFL commissioner in his annual pre-Super Bowl press conference had said,

Obviously, it creates a buzz. It creates another group of young fans, particularly young women, that are interested in seeing why she is going to this game.

Fans cite Taylor Swift’s influence in Rodger Goodell increasing the NFL salary cap

A few days ago, Rodger Goodell announced that the league was increasing the salary cap to $255.40 million per team for the 2024 season. It marked a $30 million jump in cap money from the 2023 season, which was $224.8 million.

Several factors influenced the sudden spike in the salary cap numbers. Most notably full repayments of amounts advanced by franchises and deferred by players during COVID-19. The New Media Rights deal includes increased match days in the regular season and the postseason. However, fans on social media speculate that the Taylor Swift factor is the biggest reason for the surge.

It’s in the realm of possibilities, with many fans wanting to catch a glimpse of their idol. And whom she is meeting with, along with her reactions. Although Chris Russo would also welcome the growth of the league’s viewership and revenue, he did not take Swift’s alleged constant presence on TV during game-day broadcasts too kindly.

This past week, she was on for 55 seconds. [But] they went to that box 12 times. 12 TIMES! He only caught one ball in the first half. I’m not interested!

Russo said on the post Super Bowl segment of ESPN’s First Take

Regardless, Taylor Swift is here to stay until Travis Kelce is playing ball. Judging by his wish to record a 3-peat (winning three Super Bowls back-to-back), Russo has no choice but to swallow his pride and keep enduring Swift’s presence.
