The rumor mills have started once again about former Saints’ head coach Sean Payton and Tampa Bay quarterback Tom Brady. The duo has been linked in the past for a possible team up. However, there are many factors that play a role in this, mainly whether the 45-year-old QB has one more season left in him or not.
At the start of this season, Sean Payton announced his retirement from the NFL after being the head coach of the New Orleans Saints for 15 years. He was sought after by many clubs in the league, but he went on to work for Fox as an in-studio analyst.
Now that Brady becomes a free agent after this season and Sean Payton has said that he might be looking to come back into the business, there are speculations that they might finally team up as head coach-QB.

While talking with NFL insider Peter Schrager, Sean Payton had an interesting take on the rumors. “There’s too many variables in that equation. If we worked together,” Payton said. “I’m going to predict there’s a good chance if we work together, it’ll be with Fox.” The 2006 AP Coach of the Year added that while he remains a big fan of the 7x Super Bowl champion, he can’t speak for Brady and the number of different things involved in his decisions.
Sean Payton further said that he and Tom Brady do share a bit of history; Payton lived in San Mateo, California for seven years and Brady grew up there. Don Yee represents them both who introduced them to each other during Brady’s rookie year. He said that while both of them respect each other and admire their accomplishments, that doesn’t mean that they are looking to work together.
Their linkup rumors gained the spotlight when it was reported that the Miami Dolphins had illegal communication with Tom Brady while he was with the New England Patriots during 2019-2021. The club once again had unsanctioned communication with the star QB when he was under contract with Tampa Bay. The same happened with Sean Payton, who was contacted by the team for a possible head coach opening during his last year with the Saints.
The league fined Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross $1.5 million for breaching the league’s rules. As per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Denver Broncos have received the go-ahead from the Saints to interview Sean Payton for their head coach opening. And with Tom Brady being without a team after this season, it might be possible that the duo are teaming up or Brady might join FOX Sports and finally hang up his cleats after 23 glorious seasons.
Things will heat up in the coming days and the answer to these questions will be answered soon enough.
