Formula 1 sensation and Red Bull driver Sergio Perez visited the Dallas Cowboys headquarters at The Star in Frisco yesterday after the Canadian GP where he finished sixth. Perez met with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and star quarterback Dak Prescott. After his visit to the facility, Perez found that there are a lot of similarities between the NFL and F1.

In the video released by the Cowboys’ social media team on Twitter, Perez said, “There are very similar things in both sports. For example, recovery. We [race] every 15 days, sometimes every week, between those days the recovery that we need as pilots is long, it is something similar to them; and of course, the level and time they dedicate to the strategy.”

While Perez is known as the Mexican Minister of Defense in the Formula 1 world, the 33-year-old would rather be on the offense in the NFL. When asked which side of the scrimmage line he would want to play, ‘Checo’ said, “I like scoring,” which is true given that he is second in the driver’s standings with 126 points.

If Sergio Perez put on some weight, then he would make the perfect running back because he is skilled in racing past his opponents to score the checkered flag. His Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen would be the quarterback (of course!) and lead his team from the front like always.

“It’s great to have such a historic brand,” Perez said via Dallas Cowboys. “It’s an iconic brand and I’m super happy to be joined by them and I am seeing what they’re doing to prepare already for 2026 when they will finally come on board, back to F1. Looking forward massively to it.”

Perez visited the facility on behalf of Ford, who has been a longtime partner of the Cowboys. Ford is set to return to the racetrack in 2026 with Red Bull after the 2022 Constructor Champions announced their partnership with Honda is set to come to an end in 2025.

The Dallas Cowboys finished 12-5 last season, making it their second consecutive 12 wins season. However, the wins were consistent as it was a roller coaster ride with constant ups and downs and no one ever knew what the outcome of the game was going to be until the last second.

Quarterback Dak Prescott started in 12 games and went 8-4 but did give away the ball like candy on Halloween. He led the league in interceptions with a career-high 15 INTs. Prescott’s ability to win playoff games has been called into question for a couple of years now given how he fails to get past the wild card and divisional round. Last year, the Cowboys lost to the 49ers led by rookie sensation Brock Purdy in the divisional round.

There is a lot of pressure from Jerry Jones to win a Super Bowl and restore the franchise as ‘America’s Team’ once again. It’ll be interesting to see if head coach Mike McCarthy can create some magic in the 2023 season or will history repeat itself once again.
