Tom Brady and the Buccaneers had a massive loss of production in their offense in this NFL season compared to their previous years. While many people believe it’s because of the injuries and poor play calling, Fox Sports analyst Shannon Sharpe blames the veteran QB for their poor outing on offense.
Brady joined the Tampa Bay team in the 2019 offseason and immediately turned them into Super Bowl contenders. Furthermore, they have won a Super Bowl ring, an NFC Championship, and two NFC South division titles. During this time, Tom Brady and his offense consistently scored 30-plus points, which helped them win multiple playoff game.
But this season hasn’t been good for Tom Brady and his team, the Bucs are ranked mid to bottom in many passing offense categories and they rank dead last in almost all the important rushing offense categories. To put a light on the situation, Tampa Bay ranked No.2 in points per game last season when they averaged 29.9 points per game and now in this season they rank No.25 in the same category as they average only 18.4 PPG.
The Bucs are playing with three new interior offensive linemen this season and are missing Brady’s two favorite weapons Rob Gronkowski and the problematic wide receiver Antonio Brown. Moreover, they lost their head coach Bruce Arians, since he retired in the 2022 off-season due to health reasons. These may be the reasons for their drastic loss in offense production, but Shannon Sharpe denounces all that and blames the veteran QB for all of their problems.
Shannon Sharpe blasts Tom Brady

Speaking on his show UNDISPUTED with Skip Bayless, Shannon Sharpe accused Brady of deflecting the blame on injuries instead of owning to his poor outing. “The notion that Buccaneers have struggled because of injuries just isn’t true, It’s a way of Tom trying to explain it and explain the season away and deflecting blame,” said Sharpe. The notion of Tom Brady “deflecting blame” comes from the QB’s statement about his team’s injury situation heading into the postseason. The Bucs QB said “We’re going to be as healthy as we’ve been all year.” on a recent episode of his Let’s Go podcast.
The former Denver Broncos TE went on to compare the Buccaneers offense’s last year’s statistics with this year’s and blamed Brady for the massive slump. “Tom Brady was sacked 22 times last year, 22 times this year. The only difference was last year he threw 43 touchdowns, this season 25 touchdowns,” said Sharpe.
The 3-time Super Bowl champion went on to imply that the Bucs QB is scared to take a hit. “Unlike a lot of these young quarterbacks that’s willing to stand in there and look down the barrel of the gun and take one to the chops, Tom Brady is unwilling to do that on 3rd and long situations. He’s gonna dirt it and get off the field,” said Sharpe about Brady’s unwillingness to take a hit. “That’s not because of injuries Tom, just own it.”
Despite their ugly offensive outings, Tom Brady and the Bucs have somehow conquered the NFC South and clinched a playoff spot. They will be facing the 5th-seeded Dallas Cowboys in the wildcard weekend.
