When someone says picture Shannon Sharpe, the first thing that comes to mind is his illustrious NFL career with three Super Bowl rings. But the retired tight end is also famous for his physique. Even though he is 55, it feels like he can take on anyone, but challenging Dwayne Johnson definitely caught his followers by surprise.

That’s what he did during a recent appearance on CBS’ The Talk. The host asked Sharpe how much he could bench press. He replied that it has been more than a year doing any form of bench press. But given the chance, he can knock it out of the park. Did not give out an exact number, though.

I haven't bench pressed in over a year.

Then came the brilliant idea from the host, and after being egged on, the ESPN contributor dished out a challenge to Dwayne Johnson, aka the Rock. The former Baltimore Ravens man said:

Give me a month, and I'll get him. All I need is a month. One month, Rock. You and I, bench press competition.

Shannon Sharpe’s fitness regime saved his life

Football is a contact sport, and to survive playing it week and week out and not get pummeled every time is to build the body up. Especially for a specialist position like the right end, it requires the player to not only be strong so that he can block rushers but also fast enough to outrun defenders as well.

Shannon Sharpe has always been a fitness enthusiast, even during his high school days. This has created a philosophy that saved his life just a few years ago. He is a cancer survivor who has remained symptom-free since 2019.

I tell people, when I train, I don’t do a Hansel and Gretel workout. I don’t drop breadcrumbs or save anything for the trip home. Do the same thing over and over for the same result. [It's] to be healthy and happy at the end of the day.
Sharpe told Men’s Health in 2018.

This new challenge that Shannon Sharpe has thrown at Dwayne Jhonson has already attracted a lot of interest on social media. Knowing the Hall of Famer’s competitive nature, if the Rock does accept the offer, then it will be a fascinating matchup.
