The Green Bay Packers have made a remarkable comeback in this NFL season and they now control their own destiny when it comes to the NFL postseason. They will face the Detroit Lions in week 18 in hopes of securing the last wildcard spot.

The Green Bay-based football team didn’t have a good start to their season and fell to a 4-8 record at one point. However, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers have made a tremendous comeback in the last 4 weeks, winning four straight games. And now, with a record of 8, they have a chance to clinch a playoff berth in the NFC playoff picture.

There are seven total playoff spots available in the NFC and six of them have been already clinched by different NFC teams. The division winners Minnesota Vikings, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the San Francisco 49ers have all confirmed their playoff spots. The Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles are still fighting for the NFC East division but have confirmed their playoff spot as wildcard entries along with the New York Giants. Furthermore, The Seahawks, the Lions, and the Packers all have a shot at the lone remaining wildcard spot.

The Packers have the easiest way to claim their right to play in the wildcard weekend as all they have to do is secure a win against the Lions in week 18. The Lions on the other hand have to defeat the Packers and hope for a Seahawks loss to clinch the 7th seed. The Seattle Seahawks have to win against the Los Angeles Rams and hope for a Packers loss in the final week of the regular season.

Shannon Sharpe has all the confidence in the Packers to win their match-up against the Lions in a must-win game. The former NFL tight end said that the Packers will take advantage of the Lions’ defense which will help them to secure a win.

“I like the Lions’ offense, but I think their defense leaves a lot to be desired and I think the Packers will take advantage of that,” said Sharpe in a recent episode of his show UNDISPUTED.

The 3-time Super Bowl champion also said that he’s surprised with the Packers’ turnaround in the second half of the season despite Aaron Rodgers not playing at a high level. “I am surprised that the Packers were able to turn this around, I thought the only way they could turn it around is that Aaron Rodgers had to play like the MVP that he’s been over the last two seasons and he didn’t do that,” said Sharpe about Rodgers.

Sharpe credited the Packers’ successful turnaround to their backfield AJ Dillon and Aaron Jones. “Well they got back into it by turning around and handing the ball to AJ Dillon and Aaron Jones, and let Aaron Rodgers play complementary football,” Sharpe said about the turnaround of the Packers.

The Packers will look to keep pounding the ball against an average Detroit Lions defense and clinch a playoff spot in week 18 of the NFL regular season. The Lions on the other hand will look to defeat the Packers in Lambeau to improve their chance of getting to the wildcard week.
