“He’s not the same QB from Seattle”: Shannon Sharpe is FRUSTRATED with Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos

Former Denver Broncos TE Shannon Sharpe does not like what he's seeing from Russell Wilson.

Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos had the team’s fanbase hyped before the season began. The popular phrase coined by the quarterback, ‘Let’s Ride’ had become immensely popular and the city of Denver was chanting it like it was a verse from the Bible, however, 5 games into the season, fans are convinced that you would be better off spending your time reading the Holy Bible rather than watch the team play.

With a slow and disappointing start to the season, Denver has a record of 2-3 so far, the team played against Matt Ryan and the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday night and this was a game that the team could have won easily, but Russell Wilson seemed to encounter a problem that he never has come across before. He lost confidence in himself and began to have second thoughts before throwing the football.

“He’s been terrible all year”: Shannon Sharpe is horrified by the state of Russell Wilson and the Broncos offense.

Russell Wilson is having the worst season of his NFL career and Shannon Sharpe is not having it.

The game went into overtime and the Colts ended up winning the game 12-9. In light of this terrible performance by the Broncos, a former member of the team, a Hall of Famer, and one of the best tight ends to ever play, Shannon Sharpe had some harsh words for Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos on Undisputed.

Here’s what Sharpe had to say, “Last night, Russ was awful, I hate to say this, but Seattle might have sold us a lemon. Right now, it is not looking good. In the first 4-5 games of the season, Russell Wilson has been awful. There is no other way around it. He threw one great pass last night and the tight end dropped it in the end zone, it would have been a touchdown.”

Sharpe addresses the changes he sees in Wilson from his stint at Seattle and his role as the starter in Denver, “Russell Wilson does not want to get hit anymore unless it is wide open like the first scramble last night where he took off for 20+ yards, other than that, Russ is looking for a nice comfortable place to lay down. He is not the same Russell Wilson that we saw the first decade of his career in Seattle.” That is quite harsh but not wrong as the quarterback has looked like a shadow of himself in the first 5 games.

To make matters worse, he seemed to be hesitating on throws and he is not accustomed to missing wide-open receivers but this time; he made a blunder that cost the Broncos the game. K. J Hamler ran a slot route and got himself open, but Russ seemed to be hell-bent on throwing the ball in the direction of Courtland Sutton, who had backs swarming all over him. It came as no surprise that Hamler threw his helmet and began to vent his anger in frustration.

Here’s what Shannon had to say about that particular play, “He looks scared, he is missing reads, K. J Hamler was wide open. They ran a slot, they ran into a fade, K. J Hamler would have walked into the end zone and Russell Wilson never looked that side. Russell Wilson has not lived up to the expectations at all, to make matters worse, he had 2 interceptions and the one to Stephon Gilmore seemed to be a careless mistake.

The quarterback took a hit early on and despite many thinking that he may have had a concussion and should have been taken out of the game; he seemed to walk and play like his normal self. It cannot be ruled out that the hit may have had an impact on his thinking, as he seemed to take more time than usual to process plays and was flustered for most of the game. Irrespective of that, Russell Wilson has to do better. He is not looking anything like the fierce, hungry, determined quarterback and vocal leader that he was in Seattle.
