Renowned sports analyst Shannon Sharpe gave his take on Baker Mayfield’s scintillating debut for the Los Angeles Rams. Joining the team just two days before the Raiders game off waivers from the Panthers, Mayfield played the game of his life to lead the Rams to a brilliant comeback win.

The Rams trailed 3-16 with just a few minutes left on the clock and the Rams’ offense looked completely out of sorts. Mayfield injected urgency into the offense and led them to two drives in the dying minutes. He led a 98-yard drive for a game-winning 23-yard touchdown in the final seconds which brought an end to the Rams’ 6-game losing streak.

Speaking on Undisputed with Skip Bayless, Sharpe gave Mayfield an ‘A’ and reasoned that he was the quarterback no one wanted except the Rams. “I didn’t have a choice, I had to give him an ‘A’. I gave him an ‘A’ because he’s the quarterback that no one wanted. The Rams were the only team that wanted him. He jumped off the plane and he gave them a Wolford and Perkins couldn’t provide,” Sharpe said.

He agreed that the Raiders’ poor defense at the end helped Mayfield but still, he did his part of the job, and to do it without knowing much about the team’s tactics is a herculean task for sure.

“You have to give him credit for that. Yeah, the Raiders helped but he still had to go out there and do his part of the job. The Rams’ offensive line was really really bad, lack of credible receivers, and a non-existent running attack. If you look at the game, he had an instant connection with the team,” he added.

Sharpe pointed out that Mayfield led the team, who were on a losing streak biggest enough for any defending Super Bowl champion, is a part of the job he should be proud of and he should rightly be credited for it.

“They won the game. They had lost 5 or 6 games in a row. They were desperate. They had the longest losing streak of any defending Super Bowl champion since the Super Bowl has been played. So, give him credit for that. He made some big-time throws, a 98-yard drive to win the ball game, made some big-time throws on that drive, I don’t think you have any choice. You have to give him an ‘A’,” he said.
