“Jon Gruden is not ceding power,” Shannon Sharpe offers a new theory on why Tom Brady’s shock move to the Raiders did not materialise

A piece of shocking news has taken the world of the NFL by storm, as UFC president Dana White revealed that he had orchestrated moves for former New England Patriots star, Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski to join the Las Vegas Raiders in 2020.

However, the move never materialised and instead, the duo went on to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Since then many have tried to speculate the reason for the breakdown of such a massive move, and former NFL player turned analyst, Shannon Sharpe finally gave his theory.

Speaking on the show Undisputed with his co-host Skip Bayless, Sharpe claimed that Raiders head coach Jon Gruden was definitely why the move broke down. Sharpe stated that Gruden is the sort of coach who likes to keep power within his hands inside the locker room.

If that is true, then Gruden did what he had to do, because Tom Brady is that sort of a personality who carries an amount of aura with him wherever he goes and it’s needless to say that he would have had a strong voice inside the Raiders camp, if he went there.

Shannon Sharpe said, “Well, I think the thing is, given Jon Gruden did not like the idea of giving up power. When you bring a guy on like a Peyton Manning, you bring a guy on like a Tom Brady. The power shifts. You are no longer the dominant voice in the locker room. They are.”

“And you know, if you know anything about Jon Gruden, Jon Gruden is not ceding power to anyone. Derek Carr does not challenge the authority of a Jon Gruden like a Tom Brady would. And so it takes a special type of a coach.”
