Looks like Dan Orlovsky isn’t the only one claiming C.J. Stroud should win the MVP. The ‘First Take’ analyst Shannon Sharpe also joined the queue by asserting the Houston Texans quarterback is currently the most valuable player frontrunner in the league.
In a recent episode of First Take, Sharpe put forward some bold points on QB Stroud in the NFL MVP race. He was joined in the debate by former quarterback Orlovsky and analyst Stephen A. Smith.
Sharpe argued the rookie quarterback deserves the MVP title, saying,
He is top-ten in passing yards, touchdowns, and quarterback ratings. He's only thrown two interceptions…the Texans were 11-38-1 over the last three seasons.
During his rookie campaign, Stroud has logged throwing for 2,626 yards along with 15 touchdowns and only two interceptions. With him, the Texans have improved to 5-4 and ranked second in the AFC South division. The NFL Hall of Famer continued,
If he gets this team into the playoffs, how do you not give him the MVP?
Apart from Texans QB Stroud, Sharpe mentioned two other quarterbacks, —Cam Newton and Andrew Luck, who have recorded passes for above 350 yards in three events. He compared them with Stroud, saying,
They did it through 16 games. He's done it in 9 weeks. He should be the favorite to win MVP. … If they win the division, it's a no-brainer.
Sharpe’s belief in the quarterback rose after the Texans game against the Cincinnati Bengals, where the 22-year-old rookie QB led his team to a victory at 30-27. He finished the game by completing 23 out of 39 pass attempts for 356 yards and a passing touchdown with just one interception.
What are the chances for C.J. Stroud to lead his team to the playoffs?
Having Stroud as their starting quarterback feels like everything that the Texans needed to reach the playoffs. He was drafted an the second overall pick and is the first to record passing yards of 2,626 and 15 touchdowns with two interceptions.
The Texans are currently behind the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC South division. They have already beaten the Jaguars once earlier this year, and with the form they have been playing recently continues, they can surely beat them again.
In Week 9 this season, Stroud made history by recording the highest odds to prevail the Rookie of the Year. The odds became more illustrated after the victory over the Bengals.
