“The intern will go back to being what he was- an intern” Shannon Sharpe’s brutal words sting Cooper Rush, labels him ‘Just Another Guy’
Shannon Sharpe and Cooper Rush
The Dallas Cowboys suffered a crushing defeat against their arch-rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, in Week 6. This was the first loss they suffered after losing out to the Buccaneers in Week 1- and Cooper Rush’s poor skills seemed to catch most of the losing heat. Shannon Sharpe did not hold back against Skip Bayless, and his words stung Rush right where it hurt.
“The biggest reason the Cowboys lost was that Cooper Rush was awful. You keep talking about the two drives where he was 8-10. What about those drives that were 10-28? The man didn’t throw for 200 yards again,” said a furious Sharpe.
“Don’t rush to get off the Cooper train, I would like you to stay there. What does that matter what Buffalo could have done? All you told me for the last four weeks was Cooper Rush.” Sharpe pointed out that if the defense could hold him below 20 points, he could win. He should have played for the entirety of the game, and not just for 2 drives, pointed by Sharpe as well.
Shannon Sharpe rips apart Cooper Rush’s poor performance
“Jalen Hurts said that ‘If I get to 24 the cowboys can’t beat me, because the intern will go back to being what he was before he got this job- an intern’. You have got to realize at some point that the QB controversy was absolutely ridiculous.”
Rush has been a free agent, emphasized Sharpe, and yet he has been a backup QB. Bayless tried to defend Rush by mentioning the poor coaching that the team had received. Sharpe hit back hard, however, saying that he could play well for five games despite the poor coaching, but when it came to the last game, suddenly coaching became the issue.
Jerry Jones thought he found another Tony Romo- he did not, said Sharpe. “It came to an end as I told you it would, in dramatic fashion. He’s just a guy. That’s all he’s ever been, that’s all he’ll ever be. There’s a reason why he’s still a backup in Dallas,” concluded Sharpe harshly.
