Taylor Swift has fallen in love with football. What gives? Her reaction to Patrick Mahomes‘ defense-splitting pass to Mecole Hardman Jr. was a dead giveaway.
Initially, the pop icon started attending NFL games to cheer for her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce. Over time, she grew to like the game as well. It’s not like she wasn’t familiar with sports; she grew up in a household where her father was an avid football lover.
However, being a world-famous singer can take up a lot of time. Since becoming a regular during Chiefs games, she has rediscovered her lost appreciation. She revealed to Time magazine that ‘she has been missing out‘ on the fun.
As promised, Swift returned to the US after finishing her first day of the ERAS Tour concert in Tokyo. The 34-year-old showed up at Allegiant Stadium with Ice Spice and Blake Lively. After greeting Jason Kelce and his wife, Kylie Kelce, Swift emersed herself into watching the game.
Taylor Swift was shocked by Patrick Mahomes’ accurate pass
The game began at a brisk pace. On the first play, San Francisco 49ers linebacker Chase Young sacked Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs fell behind by three points at the start of the second quarter through a 49ers field goal.
Mahomes was aiming to tip the balance in the Chiefs’ favor, put together a few plays, and tried to enter the 49ers half. With 12 minutes until halftime, he launched a deep one near the San Francisco endzone from 1 and 10. At the end of the pass was waiting Mecole Hardman Jr., who plucked the ball despite the double coverage.
The CBS camera turned toward where Swift and her cavalry were sitting. They caught Taylor Swift jumping out of her seat and Blake Lively screaming, “What the fu**?”
According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Mahomes hit a dime for 52 yards to Hardman. It traveled 58.2 yards in the air and was the 28-year-old’s third-longest pass of his career. Also, it was his longest pass since Week 12, 2020, which had a completion probability of 8%.
In the very next play, running back Isiah Pacheco fumbled the ball, and the 49ers recovered it. And they used it to their advantage. Instead of Brock Purdy throwing the ball, the 49ers tricked the Chiefs, as wide receiver Juan Jennings found running back Christian McCaffrey to score a 21-yard touchdown.
Going into halftime, the 49ers had a 10-3 lead. They are close to winning their first Super Bowl since 1994.
