On Sunday, the San Francisco 49ers, led by their second-year quarterback Brock Purdy, are going against the Patrick Mahomes-led Kansas City Chiefs in their Super Bowl game in Vegas. In the game, the Niners’ rookie kicker Jake Moody made history by drilling the longest field goal in Super Bowl history.

After four scoreless drives to start the Super Bowl, the Niners managed to draw first blood in the 5th drive and put some points on the board to end the drive that started in their own 17-yard line. They cashed in on the 5th drive with Jake Moody’s perfect kick in the second quarter.

Moody nailed a perfect 55-yard field goal to give the Niners a 3-0 lead over the Chiefs. With that kick, the rookie kicker now owns the record for the longest-made field goal in Super Bowl history. The previous record was 54 yards by the Buffalo Bills kicker Steve Christie in Super Bowl XXVIII. Check out the footage of Moody’s perfect kick attached below.

So far in the big game, the Niners have been playing lights out, but haven’t been able to put many points on the board. Particularly, they have been controlling the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. The Niners defensive line has been relentless in putting pressure on the Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes.

As a result, the Chiefs’ offense has been really quiet in the game, leading to some chaos in their camp. Nonetheless, there’s still more than enough time for them to come back in this game and defend their crown.

Jake Moody has been an ace for the 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers shocked a lot of people when they drafted the Michigan Wolverines quarterback Jake Moody with their 99th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. But, the rookie kicker has proved to be a great investment for the Niners.

In the 2023 season, he successfully converted 22 of his 26 field goal attempts, including 3 out of four from 50-plus yards. He has also made 60 of his 61 extra-point attempts in 17 games.

Furthermore, at the biggest game of his career yet, he nailed a perfect 55-yard kick, which is a record for the longest-made field goal in the Super Bowl.

The rookie has had an impressive season and is looking to cap it off with a Super Bowl victory against the Chiefs. Currently, the Niners are in control of the game.
