Cam Newton has been out of the NFL for a while now, which means he does not get a lot of media attention because he is no longer an active player. The former quarterback has started his own podcast titled 4th and 1 and it has taken off, especially after his comments on Brock Purdy.
Newton recently called the San Francisco 49ers QB a “game manager” and not a game changer because he was the 10th-best player on the team. However, now that the manager has managed to take his team all the way to the Super Bowl, Newton is being forced to eat his words.
Skip Bayless of Undisputed on FS1 called him out over his baseless comments and said,
...Who initially labeled him a game manager? Did they watch (Purdy play)?
The analyst was in shock because if one really sees the quarterback play week in and week out, they would know that the man controls the game and makes clutch plays when needed. For a second-year QB, that is beyond impressive.
Skip Bayless is in awe of Purdy and further said,
He is a playmaker of the highest order...this is not game managing...It's ridiculous...I don't get it, I don't know what Cam was thinking.
The analyst stated that Purdy was “far from” a game manager and his performance is a testament to that.
Brock Purdy is on the brink of making history
The last pick of his draft class is in contention to win the MVP award this season. Purdy put up consistently good numbers, there were a few hiccups here and there but everyone has a bad game. It comes as no surprise that not just Purdy’s teammates but legends such as Joe Montana, Michael Vick, and Calvin Johnson have publicly backed Purdy and dismissed Newton’s comments.
The former QB for the Carolina Panthers doubled-down on his comments when he stated that his intent was to not paint Brock Purdy as a bad player but the mere fact that he is being considered a game-changer when he is not even amongst the top three best players of his own team is ridiculous. This is why Newton views Purdy as more of a game manager.

Well, irrespective of what Cam Newton has to say, Brock Purdy is in a position to do what the former could only dream of doing, which is winning a Super Bowl for his team. If he manages to lead the 49ers to a Super Bowl victory against the Kansas City Chiefs, Purdy would have hit the nail on the coffin for all of his critics.
