“Haven’t seen anything like this,” Skip Bayless slams Patriots HC Bill Belichick for his greed
Skip Bayless on Bill Belichick
The New England Patriots’ Offensive Coaching situation is quite interesting, to say the least as Matt Patricia and Joe Judge share responsibilities of the Offensive Co-coordinators with each taking a turn to call the plays in the Patriots’ pre-season game. The man behind this move is New England Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick.
Belichick has always been known for some interesting moves and gambles but they have made him an 8-time Super Bowl Champion [6 as Head Coach of the Patriots and 2 as Defensive Coordinator for the New York Giants]. Not many try to question Belichick’s moves as his legacy as one of the greatest coaches in all of Sports is one that had almost made him unquestionable but the Canton-bound legend hasn’t had much success recently which has resulted in many questioning his latest move.
Skip Bayless is not a fan of Judge and Patricia sharing duties
Skip Bayless termed the whole matter “comical” and added-“I have never seen anything like this. It’s not like you took two young offensive coaches and said I am gonna have a competition here to see which of you has the best command of play calling because your expertise is on the offensive side of the ball.”
He then went on to say-“Neither of these guys[Patrcia and Judge] were trained offensively at all and its like Belichick thumbing his nose at the system whereby you go out and find the next hot offensive guru to replace Josh McDaniels. He’s like ‘no I am gonna keep it in house I am gonna keep it with my disciples two guys I completely trust who are completely and utterly loyal to me which gives me the leeway to call some plays myself because there gonna do his bidding.”
Bayless went on to give an example of a similar situation where legendary Cowboys‘ Coach Tom Landry used to call out offensive plays as a head coach which per Bayless frustrated Hall of Fame Quarterback Roger Staubach who used to make his own adjustments in the huddle which in turn infuriated Landry.
Bayless continued – Belichick is still in a down-to-the-wire battle with Tom Brady for credit and legacy and for him to be able to call plays and they have a big year or Mac Jones takes another quantum leap well you don’t think he’d want credit for being the offensive genius also.”
Skip also added-“I pity this kid[Mac Jones].” In the end, he questioned Bill Belichick’s great legacy which has earned him credit as a football genius.
