The San Francisco 49ers started the season by winning five games on the trot. Their QB Brock Purdy was having a dream season, and the Niners looked like a team that was on a mission to win their first Super Bowl since 1995. However, the Cleveland Browns handed them their first loss of the season, and it has all gone downhill since then.

After starting the season 5-0, the Niners have lost their next three games and have slipped to 5-3. Their latest game against the Cincinnati Bengals might be their worst loss this season. They were blown away by the Bengals at home, 31-17. Purdy had a rough game, as he threw two interceptions and was responsible for three turnovers. Fox Sports analyst Skip Bayless talked about Purdy’s performance on Sunday.

"Brock Purdy has fallen all the way to ninth in the MVP odds. He was first and he has fallen to ninth. So he's pretty much fallen completely out of it. He’s starting to look a little more like Mr. Irrelevant. If you keep on risking at this level, bad things can happen.
Bayless said on his show, Undisputed

Purdy finished the game with 365 passing yards, one touchdown, and a couple of interceptions. He wasn’t solely responsible for the Niners’ loss, but he had three costly turnovers that led to points for the Bengals.

The Bengals came into the game with a record of 3-3. The Niners were hoping to bounce back against them on Sunday after a couple of terrible losses. However, the Bengals and their QB, Joe Burrow, ran the show from the beginning and gave the Niners little chance to eke out a win.

Kyle Shanahan talked about Brock Purdy’s performance against the Bengals

Brock Purdy had zero interceptions in the first five games of the season. In his next three games, he will have five. The San Francisco 49ers have lost all those games. Against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, Purdy had two interceptions as the Niners were defeated by 14 points. HC Kyle Shanahan talked about Purdy’s performance.

He made some bad picks there at the end. I thought he was one of the reasons we were in the game today. Some of those throws he made out there were unbelievable. The mistake in the red zone, missing the handoff was the biggest part. And then once you do that, you can't throw it or you're going to get the penalty, but worse that he got the pick.
Shanahan said after the game

The Niners will now face the 6-2 Jacksonville Jaguars on the road in their next game. It will be another tough matchup for Purdy and the Niners. However, they will have ample time to prepare for that game as they have a bye next week.
