The contract drama surrounding Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens, which is being going on since the start of the 2022 season, is getting more interesting by the day.
ESPN’s Ryan Clark reported that the Ravens initially offered Jackson $113 million guaranteed, then raised it to $133 million guaranteed, but the former first-round pick rejected both offers. The clock is ticking for both parties as they can’t seem to agree on the money. So, either the Ravens sign him or let him go.
Lamar Jackson is betting on himself. The 2019 season MVP is confident he can get more money because he is a guy that can win the Ravens, or any team for that matter, the Super Bowl. The Ravens recently shelled out a $100 million contract extension to linebacker Roquan Smith, which might make it difficult for them to give into Jackson’s demands.

Lamar Jackson was offered less money than Kyler Murray
Jackson is a dual-threat quarterback who had a unanimous NFL MVP season in 2019 and there is no doubt that he will win a Super Bowl in the near future. The 26-year-old quarterback is after a contract that will pay him more money than Deshaun Watson, who has a $230 million fully guaranteed contract with the Cleveland Browns.
The Ravens also have to look into different circumstances such as injuries that have caused Jackson to miss games this year as well as last year. Also, big-money contracts have become a somewhat cautionary tale around the league seeing the performance put up by Kyler Murray and Russell Wilson this season. There is a high possibility that Jackson might not get the deal he is looking for. But statically speaking, Jackson is a top-10 quarterback. He is lightning-quick on his feet and he can do wonders with his arm talent.
The former Heisman Trophy winner is definitely a better quarterback than Kyler Murray who has a $189.5 million guaranteed contract from the Cardinals. The resurfacing of Jackson rejecting the $133 million fully guaranteed has caused the fans to question why the Ravens aren’t going all in on the former MVP.
Jackson has proved himself to be a franchise quarterback capable of winning the Super Bowl. Baltimore should make a decision as early as possible because they can either franchise tag him or let another team make him an offer. It’ll be interesting to see if the Ravens release him because then there will be Aaron Rodgers, possibly Tom Brady, and Lamar Jackson in the quarterback market. This is going to be a fun and highly interesting off-season.
