The 2023 NFL regular season is officially over and teams that failed to qualify for the postseason have already started their off-season moves. Multiple NFL teams have already parted ways with their head coaches. In that trend, the Seattle Seahawks have now made a shocking move to fire their head coach Pete Carroll following a 14-year long tenure.

On Wednesday, the Seahawks owner Jody Allen released a statement announcing their decision to move on from their veteran leader Pete Carroll following an underwhelming 2023 campaign. In the statement, the team claimed that they made the decision after thoughtful meetings and careful consideration for their franchise’s best interest.

Carroll — whose team failed to make the postseason in 2023 — will remain as an advisor with the Seattle-based football team. Later, in an emotional press conference, Carroll said he and the team mutually agreed to set a new course, but he tried his best to remain as the head coach of the team.

I want to make sure that that's clear as things have shifted so quickly in most people's perspective. It's been an honor and a thrill to be part of this program and I've loved every minute of it. You've watched me love it.

As for his advisor role, Carroll said he’s grateful that the organization found something that makes sense for him. He said he’ll figure out his role as an advisor soon, but he won’t be helping his general manager John Schneider in finding a suitable replacement for him. Carroll cleverly defected the question about whether he will entertain head coaching gig from other teams.

So, as of now, Carroll is an advisor with the Seahawks. It might change in the future and the veteran might land a head coaching job with another team.

As for the franchise, they have an abundance of talents to go after in the upcoming head coach hiring cycle. Mike Vrabel and Jim Harbaugh will be a couple of the most sought-after head coaching candidates.

Furthermore, some reports suggest the Seahawks are also interested in pursuing the Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn to be their leader.
