Targeting has been a point of contention in college football for a while. It’s hard for the referees to identify which tackle should be judged as intentional. However, there was hardly any doubt in anyone’s eyes about what Boston College Eagles Khari Johnson pulled against a Pittsburgh Panthers player on Thursday night.

When Panthers Malcolm Epps went for a vertical jump to catch the pass, Johnson launched himself at the Pittsburgh player. Epps caught the ball, but he was blindsided by the fact that a player was flying right at him. Johnson collided head and shoulder first.

Fortunately for Epps, there was minimal damage as the tackle just grazed past his helmet. Even though the intent was to stop the Boston player from running away with the ball, there was undoubtedly a better approach to doing so. Johnson was rightfully ejected from the game.

Social media is pissed at Boston College Eagles player Khari Johnson

Violence has no place in the field of football. He should rewatch the tape over and over again and try to rectify his mistake. While he may get away with just a warning because it’s college football, if it were the NFL, he would have suffered a hefty fine, judging by the recent trajectory.

The social media naturally wasn’t impressed by the rush of blood from Johnson. A few pointed out that the ACC should get involved.

The Panthers went into the game, winning just two games all season. But surprisingly, they were the ones making most of the possession of the ball. Still, it was a 1-point game with just under 6 minutes left on the clock.

Just 30 seconds later came the crucial moment of the night. Piitsburgh’s Nate Yarnell led the charge forward, already bagging a touchdown early on. However, it was Rodney Hammond Jr. who made the difference.

A bounced pass from Yarnell made its way to Hammond. He dodged a few Boston players and ran 66 yards to seal the Panthers’ third win of the season. The game ended 24-16. Hammond carried the ball 15 times for 145 yards and a touchdown, and Yarnell completed 11-of-19 pass attempts for 207 yards and a touchdown.
