The Philadelphia Eagles are heading to the Super Bowl! The Eagles defeated the San Francisco 49ers in a dominating way in the NFC Conference Championship game on Sunday. NFL experts predicted a close game between the evenly matched teams, but Nick Sirianni‘s team had other ideas. The Eagles led by their MVP candidate QB Jalen Hurts handed the Niners a humiliating 31-7 loss.
The 49ers’ bad luck with the quarterbacks continued as their third-string quarterback and rookie sensation Brock Purdy suffered an elbow injury during the first quarter of the game. Kyle Shanahan was forced to play with their fourth-string quarterback Josh Johnson, which did not go very well. The 49ers’ O-line was solid, but they couldn’t stop their players from fumbling the rock three times.
On the other side, the Eagles had a QB who knew how to manage the game. The third-year QB didn’t blink in his Conference Championship debut and had a solid game. He completed 15 of his 25 passes for 121 yards while completing 60% of his passes. The numbers might not wow people, but he was efficient and managed the game well. Furthermore, he also carried the rock 11 times for 39 yards and one touchdown while averaging 3.9 yards per carry.
With this victory, the Oklahoma product became the youngest quarterback in the Philadelphia-based franchise‘s history at just 24 years old. With Hurts under center, the Eagles have a solid shot at becoming the Super Bowl Champions.
Social media hails Jalen Hurts for becoming the youngest QB in Eagles’ history to reach Super Bowl
The Eagles’ fans on social media are in celebration mode after their team defeated the road underdogs 49ers in a blowout game. Furthermore, they hailed Hurts as their new hero after he became the youngest QB in the Eagles’ history to lead them to the big game.
Jalen Hurts is still on a rookie deal, which means the Eagles will at least have him for one more year and then they can use the franchise tag on him and keep him tied with the Eagles for three more years if they want.
That opens a window of a minimum of two years for the Philadelphia-based football team to achieve their primary goal, i.e., winning the Super Bowl. If they end up winning this Super Bowl, they will be a hotspot for premium free agents, which means they can go all in on Hurts and try to add one more Trophy to their franchise’s trophy cabinet.
Furthermore, despite reaching the Super Bowl this season, they still have two first-round Draft picks, including a top 10 overall pick in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft, which they can use to draft or trade for a premium player.
Nevertheless, now they will be focused on their next opponent, the Kansas City Chiefs led by MVP candidate QB Patrick Mahomes, who they will be facing in the Super Bowl on Feb 12 in Glendale, Arizona.
