Bryce Young was drafted No.1 overall in the 2023 NFL draft. It felt like the Carolina Panthers have got their starting QB for the next season and onwards.

However, the Panthers are not yet confident in the QB’s abilities and want him to learn more by sitting on the sidelines and competing with other players. Young was the standout player in college football and has proved his worth time and time again.

Regardless, the Carolina-based team have put their faith in QB Andy Dalton and wants him to start the season as their main QB. The Panthers didn’t count out the possibility of Young being a starter and even encourage the competition between the other QBs.

“If Andy’s the guy to start the season, and he’s the starter right now heading into the season, then he’ll be the guy. When Bryce is ready or Matt Corral is ready whoever it may be, that’ll be the time they go in. We say it’s open competition,” Panthers G.M. Scott Fitterer stated to PFT. “Andy’s he’s our guy right now. He’ll walk into the season as the starter and then as you know, the young guys compete underneath him, then they’ll go in when they’re ready.”

It’s not new for Bryce Young to start out as QB2 and work his way upwards. He did the same thing in college when he was the backup to Justin Fields. However, the masses on social media weren’t content with the Panthers’ decision and felt that they were wasting away their No.1 pick on the bench.

Bryce Young is the first overall pick and comes with lots of expectations. The Panthers will have to carefully assess his situation. There have been many instances where the first overall pick has turned out to be a major bust.

NFL Twitter went berserk after finding out about the fate of Young and immediately retaliated on social media. Many believe that the Panthers will falter his growth with the lack of game-time. However, many argued that the point of the first overall pick is to start games and not warm the bench.

Although the Panthers have confirmed that Andy Dalton will start over Bryce Young as QB1 for the team, many believe that the former Crimson Tide QB will be the started by the time NFL Week 2 comes around.
