Stefon Diggs was seen talking to Josh Allen on Monday Night Football, pointing to his head. FS1 analyst Michael Irvin did not like the gesture and criticized the wide receiver for his behavior during the game against the New York Jets.

The Buffalo Bills were trailing the New York Jets despite going into halftime with a lead. Allen was having a bad day with several turnovers and interceptions. It was clear that he was trying a bit too hard to gain the upper hand, but was falling short. So Diggs did what any good teammate would do and tried to rally his quarterback.

“I say this to the quarterback, to the running backs, receivers, and the o-line,” the 29-year-old told his teammate Von Miller in a recent segment of the Von Cast. “When you see me pointing to my head, I say, Let’s play smart. I just try to [say] Hey, we got this. Let’s play hard and smart.”

However, retired football player Michael Irvin did not see the situation through Diggs’ eyes. He had a different perspective, which led him to believe that the Pro Bowler should refrain from putting the quarterback on a pedestal. Irvin said on Undisputed, “Stop messing with this man’s (Josh Allen’s) confidence.”

Diggs was surprised to hear the former Cowboys playmaker’s remarks. “I’m like, what are you talking about?,” he said. “People have their own opinions. Like, what are you talking about?”

Despite his best efforts to pump up Josh Allen, it did not work. The 27-year-old only completed 29 of 41 passes for 236 yards and one touchdown. The Buffalo Bills lost the game 22-16 in overtime.

It’s not a secret that the Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs duo is considered one of the best in the NFL. Since his move to Buffalo, Diggs has accumulated 1,200 receiving yards and 29 touchdowns every season. Allen and Diggs have connected on 338 completions, the most by any quarterback-receiver duo in that time.

However, last year’s divisional playoff loss to the Bengals hurt their partnership. Diggs was seen shouting at Allen after the game. Rumors started to leak that he wasn’t happy and wanted out. But the All-Pro revealed that the media exaggerated things a little bit.

“Yeah, I mean, your last image of me and Josh was after the fourth down (Bengals game),” Diggs told Miller. “They say a picture is worth a thousand words. So you can garnish what you want from that and create a narrative. There’s a lot of commentary that I wanted to leave, but that never came out of my mouth. I never had a conversation with anybody.”

People started to believe that he would eventually leave because he sent a tweet saying, ‘Come and rescue me‘. But Diggs claimed, “I do poke the bear from time to time. But we are all grown-a*s people. Sometimes people dive too deep or take it however they want. I am not responsible for how somebody else feels.”

He had missed the entire Bills’ OTA and the minicamp. But he rejoined the team before the preseason began. Later, they named Stefon Diggs as one of the captains of the team.
