“Don’t COUNT HIM OUT”: Stephen A. Smith is betting BIG on Justin Herbert by proclaiming him as the undisputed MVP this season

Stephen A. Smith and Justin Herbert
The 2022 NFL season is just days away from starting and we know what this means! You can expect to get a lot of takes from sports analysts and their predictions for the teams that we can expect to see in the Super Bowl this year, the top players who have the best odds at winning the MVP award, and other top accolades. Despite Las Vegas sportsbooks having Josh Allen as the most favored quarterback to win the MVP this season, Stephen A. Smith believes that there is a dark horse in that list who in all likelihood will walk away with the MVP award.
Smith is talking about none other than Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert. That’s a pretty bold pick considering the AFC West has some of the top talents in the entire NFL when it comes to quarterbacks, we got Russell Wilson, Derek Carr, and Patrick Mahomes. That is a lot of firepower to overcome. Stephen A. Smith also believes that Herbert will ensure that the Chargers will win the AFC West.

Stephen A. Smith is not ruling out the possibility of seeing Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers make the Super Bowl this season:

Stephen explains the rationale behind his picks by stating “I think that Justin Herbert is going to win league MVP, I think that they are going to win the AFC West. By virtue of winning the AFC West, you would have to have beaten Patrick Mahomes, Russell Wilson, and Derek Carr. By doing that, that’s going to shine a light on him(Justin Herbert),” though his predictions may seem crazy today, we cannot rule out Justin Herbert from having yet another stellar season.
Stephen A reminds everyone of the quarterback’s season last year, “We keep forgetting that in his second year in the league, he threw for over 5,000 yards, 38 TDs, and 15 INTs completing 65% of his passes. If Justin Herbert was picked by Miami(Dolphins) at 5(in the 2020 NFL Draft), they(Miami Dolphins) would be battling with the Buffalo Bills for supremacy in the AFC East, they would clearly be a playoff team.”
Herbert did have himself a season last year and he barely missed out on leading the Chargers to the playoffs, this offseason we have heard nothing but good things about him and how his work ethic rivals the top players in the NFL. For Justin, it’s all about football and his only goal is to take the Chargers to the next level. This season could be that turning point for the entire franchise if Herbert delivers yet again.
Consider the roster that Herbert is playing with, Mike Williams, Keenan Allen, and Austin Ekeler at the running back spot to solidify the team’s offense. On the defensive side, they have Derwin James, Khalil Mack, Joseph Day, and others. The whole team has improved and this will also be the team’s second year under Brandon Staley. Considering all of this, it really is not that far off a stretch to claim that Justin Herbert does have a legitimate shot at winning the MVP this season.
