Stephen A. Smith CLAIMS that Brock Purdy will become the first quarterback to beat Tom Brady in his first career start for the 49ers

Brock Purdy and Tom Brady

Top analyst Stephen A. Smith has shared his take on the upcoming game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 49ers will face the Bucs on Sunday in an attempt to better their 8-4 record. In the last game, 49ers’ star quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo got injured and was eventually ruled out of the season.

As Jimmy G’s replacement, 22-year-old Brock Purdy will start as the quarterback for the first time for the 49ers. On his debut, he will face the greatest quarterback of all time, Tom Brady. Speaking on First Take, Stephen A. Smith analyzed the upcoming game and said that Purdy will not go against Brady, but will take on a deadly Bucs defense, led by Bosa. He said that the Bucs offense may look out of sorts, but their defense is firing well.

“This didn’t, you know, Purdy ain’t the one that Tom Brady has to go up against. He got to go up against them boys on the defensive side, led by Bosa. And the crew, that’s what he got to go up against. He’s got to go up against them with a compromised offensive line. All right, he’s got to go up against them. With a less than stellar running game,” Smith said.

He also said that the 49ers’ defense is very strong and edges them instead of having a great offense. “The San Francisco 49 as defense is no joke. Now I’ll be fair and say, I don’t think they get at the quarterback the way that Dallas does when it comes to quarterbacks being in passing situations,” he added.

Smith further said that it won’t be easy at all for Brady to seep through this 49ers’ defense and when we add two cents about their offense, things will just elevate and be difficult for Brady and the Bucs. He said that while the 49ers will miss Jimmy G for sure, but Purdy has everything it takes to make it up for him.

“You can’t have Tom Brady dropping back to pass and throw 50 times not against these brothers. And when you take into account the fact that it’s Purdy and now you’ve got a week of film to watch on him, so you might be better prepared for him than Miami was okay, because they didn’t expect and anticipate going up against them and until Jimmy Garoppolo got hurt,” he said.

The Bucs, courtesy of a brilliant comeback win last week, are 6-6 for the season and have a difficult few weeks coming ahead for them. After the 49ers, they will face the Bengals and the Cardinals next.
