The Greatest of All Time, or GOAT, debate has been a hot topic for a while now, especially in sports. Athletes like Michael Jordan or Lionel Messi are often considered to be the GOATs in their respective sports, mainly because they are winners. Jordan has six NBA titles and a host of other individual accolades. Similarly, Messi is a World Cup winner with 8 Ballon d’Or to his name.
In football, Tom Brady is widely regarded as the Greatest Quarterback of all Time. He is the most winningest quarterback in the history of the NFL, and has won more Super Bowls than any other player in league history. However, ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith had a very interesting debate with one of the callers on a similar subject on his The Stephen A. Smith Show.
While taking a call during his latest show, Smith had a very impassioned discussion about the greatest racer of all time, Lightning McQueen or Strip “The King” Weathers. Yes, the two ‘Cars’ characters. “Danny from Wisconsin” was curious about whether Lightning McQueen could be considered a GOAT with the likes of Tom Brady for his seven Piston Cup titles. Smith, surprisingly, had a very well-thought-out response for that, as if he knew this question was coming.
Smith said:
How are you gonna be the GOAT? Because you’re talking about the movie ‘Cars’, right? You’re talking about the movie ‘Cars,’ right? I mean, when you talk about Strip ‘The King’ Weathers and, and, and Lightning McQueen, they’re both tied with seven Piston Cups … You got somebody that’s tied with you? You got somebody that’s tied with you. Sorry, that ain’t gonna work.
Smith concluded by saying:
I am not about to sit here and argue with a grown ass man about the movie ‘Cars.
Smith started his own podcast in September last year. It is one of the most popular sports shows out there, mainly because of Smith’s entertaining takes and the gamut of topics on the show. The show airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays every week.
Tom Brady unimpressed with the quality of NFL today
The winningest quarterback of all time, Tom Brady, recently appeared on The Stephen A. Smith Show and had a lot to say about the NFL today. He believes that the quality of the league today is not good as it is suffering from poor coaching and underdeveloped players.
Brady said on the show on Monday:
I think there’s a lot of mediocrity in today’s NFL. I don’t see the excellence that I saw in the past. You hear coaches complaining about their own player being tackled — why don’t they talk to their player about how to protect himself? How to get rid of the ball, how to run out of bounds, how to get down, how to lower your pad level — we used to work on the fundamentals of those things all the time. Now they’re trying to be regulated all the time.
The seven-time Super Bowl champion retired from the NFL earlier this year. He played for the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in his illustrious 23-year career. Since then, Brady has focused on expanding his business portfolio.
