Legendary rapper and Los Angeles Lakers fan Snoop Dogg‘s announcement brought out the funny bone in Stephen A. Smith. Snoop, in the early hours of Thursday, shocked the world by sharing that he will be quitting marijuana completely because his family wants him to.
He requested that everyone respect his and his family members’ privacy. And that’s the jist of it. However, it was only the beginning of a flurry of posts asking why the sudden change in his mood.
However, all eyes turned to Stephen A.’s X account, through which he shared arguably the best reaction one can hope for. The veteran sports analyst responded with a popular meme, captioning it, “I’ve won, but at what cost?”
Smith has called out players in the past with his iconic line, “Stay of the weed.” It wasn’t necessarily a nod toward Snoop per se, but whoever thought it would work on arguably the most celebrated chain smoker and advocate of marijuana use on the face of planet Earth? And yet, the internet saw what can be called the 8th wonder of the world.
Stephen A. Smith made misogynistic remarks on live TV
The Snoop Dog tweet aside, Stephen A. Smith has been in the headlines for various reasons. From dissing James Harden‘s horrible start with the Clippers to revealing his new studio upon reaching 385k YouTube subscribers, he has been busy. But hardly anyone was ready to hear sexist comments from his mouth toward fellow analysts.
In a recent segment of ESPN’s First Take, without prompting, he started talking about his female colleagues’ looks on air. In a conversation between Smith, Kimberly A. Martin, Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo, and Marcus Spears, which was heading into a commercial, Stephen A. decided to prolong with an announcement directed at guys who wanted to date Martin.
"To the fellas out there, you can’t have her. You’re bums. You know your dogs. Stop texting me about trying to get with Kimberly Martin. It ain’t happening!”Smith while interrupting Martin
Martin stopped in her tracks and tried her best to change the topic until Spears chimed in. “I’m so glad you said that,” Spears said, to which Martin rightfully asked, “Why are you glad?” and the former NFL player replied, “Because people will be asking me.”
The conversation was clearly making Martin uncomfortable. But the others in the studio booth did not bother about it. To have a playful skit is one thing, but to make a straight-up comment on whom a grown person with a successful job can or cannot date is going too far, even for someone like Stephen A. Smith.
