Stephen A. Smith is a hugely popular TV figure, and his on-screen theatrics make for great viewing. The veteran TV presenter has a habit of hogging the limelight through extravagant appearances and entrances, more so when it comes to the business end of sports tournaments.
The latest round of fixtures in the NFL saw the most popular NFL franchise, the Dallas Cowboys, suffer a heartbreaking defeat in the divisional round. The Cowboys failed against a well-oiled San Francisco 49ers in what turned out to be a game dominated by both sides’ defenses.
The Cowboys’ popularity all over the country meant that their defeat left a bad taste in their fans’ mouths. Among those fans who felt the agonizing pain was former NBA player Shaquille O’Neal, who is a huge Cowboys fan.

However, Stephen A. Smith did not care one bit about his feelings after the defeat and pounced on the opportunity. Smith facetimed the Los Angeles Lakers legend, immediately after the Cowboys’ defeat, simply to rub the defeat on O’Neal’s face.
The video captured Smith having a hearty laugh as Shaquille O’Neal just stared into the camera, accepting defeat. It wasn’t clear what Smith said, but O’Neal replied with a positive message for his friend even after getting mercilessly trolled.
O’Neal is an avid follower of the franchise and had correctly predicted their entry into the playoffs earlier in the season. He was confident of the Cowboys’ chances, even though there were concerns regarding the fitness of quarterback Dak Prescott at that stage.
Smith, though, did not stop trolling Shaquille O’Neal. He continued to make merry at the expense of the Cowboys fans and had also called up the former wide receiver, Michael Irvin. Although Smith hasn’t stated clearly, his distaste for the Cowboys in particular has been quite evident through his speeches and opinions.
The Dallas Cowboys last won the Super Bowl in 1996. Popularly euphemized as America’s team, it has been a very long time since they have actually ruled over the country in football.
