Former signal caller Cam Newton‘s ‘game manager’ comment on Brock Purdy triggered a lot of controversies. A few days back, Newton stated that Brock Purdy has never been a game-changer but has always been a game manager. Nearly two days back, the former player tweaked the statement a bit. Though he implied the same, the former quarterback stated that he never wanted to spread hatred against the quarterback.

He had said:

Man, look, I ain’t recanting s---, and if you really want to just be honest, if you add in the defensive talent, and you add in the offensive talent, Brock Purdy is the 10th-best player on this team. OK cool, did he have a great game? Yes. Has he been playing out of his mind? Yes. Is he a quarterback that’s hot? Yes.

The statement has created so much hype that the San Francisco 49ers team has also reacted. Ahead of the game against the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl, the defensive coordinator of the Chiefs team, Steve Spagnuolo said:

We’ve had some crossover film (on Brock) during the course of the year, but when you dive into it and you watch him, it’s not a quarterback that’s managing or all those tabs they (media) put on him, he’s for real. Makes all the throws, really really smart, and what I didn’t know, is how athletic he is… Thoroughly, thoroughly impressed with him.

The DC is not the first one from the Chiefs camp to support the quarterback. Apart from him, the head coach Andy Reid also ridiculed the claim by Newton.

Andy Reid spoke highly of Brock Purdy

Amid controversies and conversations, the Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke highly of Brock Purdy. Ahead of the final game of the Chiefs, the head coach showed all the respect he had for the Niners quarterback.

Reid said of Purdy:

Listen, he’s a heck of a player. I remember specifically one of the Saturday afternoons watching him in college and I remember the head coach saying, ‘This guy has changed our program.’ Changing a program, you know, that’s … big. And that’s what he is. He’s doing that in the National Football League.

Purdy had a very good season this year. He had unfinished business last year as the quarterback failed to win the NFC Championship. This year, he finished his unfulfilled job, as the quarterback won the NFC Championship title. He has now the final lap to conquer. The Chiefs are the only roadblock now.
