“The CURSE has been broken”: Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers end their losing streak to the New Orleans Saints
Tampa Bay Buccaneers end their regular season losing record of 0-4 to the New Orleans Saints
Tom Brady is one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in the history of the NFL but ever since he moved to Tampa, he has had one hurdle that he was not able to overcome, until today. The quarterback lost all the regular season matchups against the New Orleans Saints who had Drew Brees as their quarterback then but today, Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers get the last laugh as they have finally ended their 0-4 losing streak to the Saints.
The game was a particularly slow one, at halftime, the score was tied 3-3, and neither of the teams had made a trip to the endzone and were able to score through field goals. But at halftime, Tom Brady may have gotten the competitor within him awake as in the second half, the Buccaneers were able to finally score a touchdown.
Jameis Winston’s old issues resurface as Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers trump the Saints:
The game got heated with Tom Brady and Marshon Lattimore getting into a war of words, this quickly escalated as Leonard Fournette intervened and stood by his quarterback and shoved Lattimore. After this point, the whole Saints’ defense rushed to defend their player while more of the Buccaneers’ players also got involved. The spat was quickly de-escalated with refs intervening. Brady and Lattimore were both ejected afterward.
But that may have been the spark that Tom Brady needed to go off. The quarterback was not at all happy with his performance in the first half, the team could not click and despite getting opportunities from Jameis Winston‘s turnovers, the Bucs did not make it to the end zone at all.
Tom Brady repeated his infamous act of breaking yet another tablet on the sidelines, if you recall, he did this last season against the Saints as well when things were not going well for him. The NFL will definitely fine him as he was warned before to not repeat that. But when you are in the middle of a game, the last thing you think about is fine.
Tom ended the game with 18 completions out of 34, a total of 190 yards in passing, and one touchdown. He had no interceptions which is always a positive. Leonard Fournette had 65 rushing yards while Mike Evans, Scott Miller, and Russell Gage all played their roles. It was Breshad Perriman who was able to score a touchdown for the Buccaneers late in the game.
Tampa’s defense showed up and so did the ghost of Jameis Winston’s troubled past. Winston had 30 interceptions in his last year in Tampa and he seemed to have been the same player but in a Saints uniform. He gave up 3 interceptions, 2 of which Jamel Dean caught and one that Mike Edwards picked off.
However, Winston did make a final attempt to go at Tampa and did manage to convert on a pass to Michael Thomas, he ended the game with 236 yards and 25 passes completed out of 40. Chris Olave, Jarvis Landry, and Juwan Johnson all had their contributions but if your QB is throwing more interceptions than touchdowns, there is not really much that you can do as a wideout.
Tampa played smart and patient. Despite the Saints having the advantage in total yards rushing and passing, they capitalized on the right opportunities. In addition to this, it always helps to have a strong offensive line, just ask Tom Brady who got sacked just once as opposed to Jameis Winston who got sacked 6 times.
The game started off slow but did pick up some pace along the way, it is fair to say that Brady may have won this matchup but he will not be satisfied with the manner that he won this game. Tom Brady is a man who keeps the bigger picture in mind and if Tampa plays in the same manner they did tonight, they may not make it to the Super Bowl as their schedule is hectic and extremely competitive. However, the Buccaneers’ do deserve credit for ending their winless run against the Saints.
