The Cincinnati Bengals WR Tee Higgins had to go through a lot this week since Bills DB Damar Hamlin suffered a horrific injury after their tackle. Hamlin was transferred to a hospital where he is making good progress in his recovery.

During the first quarter of the Bengals-Bills game, Tee Higgins caught a 13-yard pass from his quarterback Joe Burrow and tried to gain some extra yards but he was met by the Bills DB Damar Hamlin who tackled down the WR but not before receiving a hard hit. After the tackle, the 24-year-old safety stood up to adjust his helmet before he collapsed on the field. He was resuscitated on the field by Denny Kellington and the medical staff.

He was then transferred to a local hospital where he is making good progress in his recovery. While a lot of players and fans prayed for the quick recovery of Hamlin, some people tried to blame Higgins for this freak accident. Even ESPN analyst Bart Scott blamed Tee Higgins for leading with his right shoulder while implying that it was a play deserving of a penalty.

Nevertheless, unlike Bart Scott, many people have agreed that it was a clean play and just routine tackles. Bills QB Josh Allen publicly asked people to stop bashing Tee Higgins for the unfortunate injury. Furthermore, Hamlin’s parents have also asked people to stop criticizing Higgins for their son’s injury.

Speaking to media ahead of his week 18 game against the Baltimore Ravens, Tee Higgins said that he is relieved to learn that safety Damar Hamlin is making good progress in his recovery.

“I got news this morning and it was another big relief off my chest and knowing he’s responsive and writing is good,” Higgins said while addressing the media. “What happened was a tragedy and just continue to pray, God has him.”

The third-year receiver also revealed that Damar’s mother Nina Hamlin texted earlier that morning, “It made me feel more at home, I appreciate them and them having my back as well, feels good.” Higgins said he never thought about skipping the week 18 game because he doesn’t want to let down his teammates, “Because I know at the end of the day I’m here to do a job and my teammates need me and I need my teammates as well,” he said.

The Clemson product said he had a smile on his face when he heard what Hamlin’s first question after he regained consciousness was about the result of their game. “I had a smile on my face when I heard that, because that’s something I’d ask as well and that’s how you know he was locked in,” said Higgins.

Tee Higgins is a third-year wide receiver who was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals as the 33rd overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Tee Higgins, along with Jamar Chase is one of the crucial weapons in the Bengals’ explosive offense, which played an important part in the Bengals winning the AFC North title for the second consecutive year.
