The Saturday slate of games this week began with the Cincinnati Bengals taking on the Minnesota Vikings at home. Both these teams came into the game with a record of 7-6 and needed a win to stay in the playoffs hunt. The game was a thrilling contest that went into overtime, courtesy of a brilliant touchdown reception by Bengals’ WR Tee Higgins late in the game.
The Vikings held a 7-3 lead by halftime. However, the game opened up in the third quarter and blew up in the fourth quarter. The Minnesota-based team scored 10 unanswered points in the third quarter and went into the fourth with a 17-3 lead. The Bengals though, came roaring back, outscoring the Vikings 21-7 in the final period of the game. With mere seconds remaining in the game, the Bengals pulled off a miraculous touchdown to tie the game.
Bengals’ backup QB Jake Browning threw up a deep pass that almost looked like a last-second prayer. Just when it looked like the pass would be broken up, Tee Higgins, out of nowhere, came in front of his defender and caught the ball just shy of the goal line. He was tackled to the ground immediately, but Higgins smartly extended his arm over the goal line and scored a touchdown that tied the game. It was a brilliant play by the receiver which eventually led to the Bengals’ victory in overtime.
The Bengals improved to 8-6 with the win and are now firmly in the playoff race. They are just one half a game behind the Kansas City Chiefs who will take on the New England Patriots this Sunday. The Bengals on the other hand will face the Pittsburgh Steelers next Saturday.
Cincinnati Bengals overcome the Minnesota Vikings in an epic overtime contest
The Cincinnati Bengals’ win over the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday was an important result for them in the context of the season. Their win wasn’t an easy one as they had to come back from a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter to take the victory in overtime. This result has put them in the race for a wild card spot in this year’s playoffs race.
The Bengals came into the game on the back of two amazing wins, without their superstar QB Joe Burrow. The one-time Pro-Bowler suffered a hand injury earlier in the season and was ruled out for the season. Jake Browning replaced Burrow and since then, has led the Bengals to a 3-1 record. Against the Vikings, Browning finished with 324 passing yards, 2 touchdowns and one interception.
The Vikings on the other hand, slipped to 7-7 after and were dealt a major blow to their playoff hopes. They had a chance to win the division with a win but failed to hold on to an early lead. They will play their next game against the Detroit Lions next Sunday.
