Todd Downing was arrested for DUI

The Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator may have been a little too excited about having beat the Green Bay Packers. The team’s offensive coordinator Todd Downing was arrested in Williamson County, Tennessee, early on Friday following the 27-17 victory. He was charged with DUI and speeding.

Ian Rapoport reported that the offensive coordinator posted bond at 7 AM local time on Friday. Downing was sidelined by the police around 3:49 AM but was booked at 4:39 AM. As per Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk, the Titans arrived in Nashville, Tennessee at 2:11 AM Central time.

It is uncertain when the offensive coordinator got himself intoxicated, but Florio stated that the league has “very strict rules regarding teams making alcohol available to players and coaches.” The league’s personal conduct policy prescribes a three-game suspension without pay for a first time DUI-offense.

Todd Downing has been in a coaching role for the last 20 years in the NFL:

The Tennessee Titans have not released any official statement. Downing was freed from jail on bail at 6:46 AM on Friday. It was not evident if he had retained a counsel. Mike Vrabel, the HC for the Tennessee Titans, will be holding a press conference via Zoom at 11:30 AM Central time. He may address this situation during the meeting. His arrest did make him the subject of memes on Twitter.

Downing is in his fourth season as an offensive coordinator. He was the tight ends coach before the 2019 season and was promoted to the role of an OC by Mike Vrabel following the departure of Arthur Smith to the Atlanta Falcons as the team’s HC. Todd Downing is one of the top candidates for HCs with immense potential to watch ahead of the 2023 off-season.
