Just a few days ago, the New York Jets head coach made the tough decision to bench their former second-overall pick Zach Wilson in favor of the journeyman quarterback Tim Boyle. And now, the Jets have hit a new low with Boyle as their leader since they got battered by the Miami Dolphins in the first-ever Black Friday game.
On Friday, Boyle and the Jets suffered a massive 34-13 defeat against the Miami-based football team. During the final seconds of the second quarter of the game, the Jets were trailing by 4 points and were trying to score a touchdown with a hail-mary attempt from around the midfield.
Boyle, who received the snap from the shotgun position, dropped back a few steps before scrambling to avoid pressure. And then, Tim Boyle heaved a prayer into the endzone, which was intercepted by the Dolphins defensive back Jevon Holland and was shockingly returned all the way to the house for a 99-yard defensive touchdown as the clock ran out.
Nobody in the stadium couldn’t believe what they were witnessing. The Dolphins’ head coach Mike McDaniel, and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa all looked stoked in excitement after that electric pick-six. On the flip side, the Jets’ head coach Robert Saleh was shocked and was visibly upset, potentially at his team’s effort.
Boyle didn’t have a great game, but that pick-six was far from his fault. It was more of a result of the lack of pursuit by the Jets’ offensive players after the interception during the hail-mary attempt. In the big picture, Boyle wasn’t any better than Zach Wiln at stirring the ship in New York. Boyle registered 179 passing yards and 1 touchdown while throwing for 2 interceptions.
Tim Boyle knows he doesn’t have a job security
On Friday, Tim Boyle — who started his first game for the Jets — had a horrific outing against the Miami Dolphins. Following the game, he told reporters that he doesn’t know what will happen in the future when he was asked if he believes he will start for the Jets in their next game.
I have no clue what happens going forward. Coach [Saleh] said it best after the game in the locker room — we have to get our minds right to have the best six weeks of our life moving forward. We have six more games and we’re going to try to win all six. We’re going to keep pushing, keep fighting on offense.Boyle said in the post game presser.
The Jets have already made a statement by demoting Zach Wilson to be their third-string QB. So, there’s no reason for anyone to believe that the Jets might resort to Wilson as their starting QB.
