“They put other people at RISK”: Tom Brady has some STRONG words for his young offensive line
Tom Brady
Tom Brady is back for his 100th season in the NFL, well not 100 but 23 seasons which is really long. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback has faced numerous challenges along his career but this season which in all likelihood is his last ever brings some of the toughest challenges that he may not have come across before. Tom Brady is dealing with marital problems as he and his wife, Gisele Bundchen are not on talking terms, and the quarterback’s head may not be in the right place but we do expect him to show up every game because he is Tom Brady and that is what he does.
The Buccaneers’ offense is a bit shorthanded in comparison to last season, the team lost Rob Gronkowski who retired for the second time and Antonio Brown danced his way out of the league last season. Mike Evans and Chris Godwin will show up but there are certain injury concerns around them and though they got Julio Jones, we need to see him be healthy. Tom Brady’s biggest challenge lies in his offensive line.
“Football is a dangerous game”: Tom Brady wants his young offensive line to understand the importance of doing their job

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive line has been revamped, Ali Marpet retired from the league last season, Alex Cappa signed with Cincinnati, and Ryan Jensen has a severe knee injury that is likely to keep him out for a significant portion of this season. The team does have Shaq Mason, Robert Hainsey, and Luke Goedeke but the remainder of them are young draft picks with no professional experience.
We all know the importance of a solid offensive line, not only does it give time for the quarterback to read the field and throw the ball but it is also of paramount importance for his safety. When you have guys like Aaron Donald and Myles Garrett running toward you at that speed, if a quarterback keeps getting hit like that then he risks his health as well.
Brady who is now 45 and has taken some pretty bad hits needs a strong offensive line more than ever and he made sure to emphasize this at his press conference, “Showing up every day, not making mental errors, and taking things to heart when things do not go well for them, not blaming other people for their mistakes, and learning from their mistakes and improving. Showing everyone that you really care about what you’re doing, you care about what we’re trying to accomplish, you care about the role that you’re in, and you care about the fact that your teammates and coaches put you in a position where they feel like they can trust you, that’s what I like about young players because they want to show up and do a great job.”
Tom Brady goes on to add, “Football is a dangerous sport, if they don’t do a great job, they put other people at risk, and if you don’t know what you’re doing then it could be dangerous for the backs and the quarterback. No one wants to be hung out to dry. We’re all out there together and we’re all trying to protect each other. The more that you feel like the guys know what to do and then care about what they’re doing, you gain more trust in them,” he concludes.
Tom Brady clearly understands the risks of having ill-prepared offensive lines, especially at a time when he is having a personal argument with his wife over concerns about his health due to football-related injuries and having to deal with a young and inexperienced offensive line is something that he is worried about too. The ball now lies in the hands of the young core of Tampa who will have to prove themselves that though rookies, they are to be taken seriously.
